4. Cannot figure out how to get open NAT, tried everything

I sent this "up the ladder" and what I post next are not my words but someone far smarter in these matters so here it is ....and make sure to only post the first 2 dotted decimals of the address on here , for your protection...

"quote"

I've already read it, and you're thinking what I'm thinking, that it may be that he/she is behind multiple layers of NAT, where the ISPs is also doing NAT.

The easiest way to find out, is to have the user connect their console directly to the modem (speedstream) and have a look at the IP address of their console. Make sure you ask them to only post up the first two dotted decimals numbers. For example, 123.456.xxx.xxx
and nothing else. This will also tell us if the IP address is an IPv4, or an IPv6. I don't think it's the latter one.

Before he/she do this, have them restore their consoles network settings back to factory defaults.

When they've done all this and are connected directly to the modem, ask them to run the Multiplayer Connection test. After it's done, press and hold LT/RT/LB/RB simultaneously. This will bring up detailed statistics, along with a renew port mapping. This
is the only method on the Xbox One to force a new port mapping. When you see your Xbox Ones NAT type in other places then the one I just mentioned, those are cached values.

I forgot to mention! After holding LT/RT... thing, ask them what NAT type they see. This test normally takes 10-30 seconds to complete. But it has to do with the fact that it delete the existing port mapping and then it request a new one.

Alright, might not be able to get back at figuring this out until monday, family complains when the internet is down so i usually wait till they are gone lol

Side note, the IP of the console is found on the xbox, not in the modem correct?

6. It seems like you're experiencing double-NAT

You'll have to get the IP of the router in your room and add it as DMZ on the router that's in the basement. After that you can either activate UPnP on the router in your room for your Xbox or add the ports for it.

DMZ allows the router in your room to basically pass through the router which is in the basement so it's not affected by it's firewall etc...

Your setup will be like this

MODEM -> ROUTER e3000 -> DMZ -> ROUTER wrt45g ->
UPnP OR portforward -> Xbox One

This IP address should correspond with the IP address assigned to your Xbox one. A simple yes, or no will do.

Im not sure how to set my network settings back to factory, but i hooked it back up directly to the modem and ran the multiplayer test. Says strict nat behind port-symmetric nat. The IP address is nowhere near the one in the link you posted which was 69.208.xx.xx
The one on the xbox is a 192.168 IP

to your speedstream modem?
Im running two routers in the house, one in the basement connected to the model, that router is the linksys e3000, then i have one running as an access point in my bedroom that is connected LAN to LAN to the basement router.
Ok!
So far so good.
I have port forwarded all the recommended ports on BOTH routers.
Hold on for a minute. Didn't you just say that one of your routers has been configured to be operating as an access point? An access point is a layer 2 device
which means that it shouldn't be able to make decisions based on logical addressing (IP address) and, or, transport information. Such as a transport protocol and port.

When, or if, you manually configure port forwarding, only a router is able to make forwarding decisions based on this information (IP address/Transport protocol/port). Where an acces point will not, as its only concern has to do with physical addressing (MAC
address).

"The 192.168 address, was this the address that your Xbox one picked up while it was directly connected to your speedstream modem?"

Correct, after i connected it to the modem and started the xbox up and went into the network setting this is the IP it gave me.

"Hold on for a minute. Didn't you just say that one of your routers has been configured to be operating as an access point? An access point is a layer 2 device which means that it shouldn't be able to make decisions based on logical addressing (IP address)

This is probably where my lack of networking skills hurt me. I see what your saying- only one router should handle port forwarding when one is just an access point correct? Either way we still have to fix getting the strict nat at the modem.

Phone your ISP and have them know about your situation, and if they are able to allocate you with a public IP address, instead of a private address, and we'll work from there.

Ill see what i can do about that. Mom is real anal about any of the internet stuff, ill see if i can get it done without knowing any of the account info but i fear that will be impossible. Ill try the online chat with AT&T first.
