Cannot Download Update

My xbox 360 can no longer download updates since about two weeks ago. I have tried every thing like putting it on a compatible flash drive and the weird disk drive thing.

I am getting the xxxx-xxxx-xx8x-xxxx-8007-2746 status code and I get it on both wired and wireless.

I have also been having problems connecting to xbox live before this.

can't download optional media update

I cannot download the optional media update. When i try to it just says "cannot download optional media update".

OK so I did get it to finally work after using a personal hotspot, but I am still having trouble connecting to Xbox LIVE through my router.

I live in AUS with a Fritz Box 7390 router / modem and I have tried connecting to xbox live with wired and wireless.

I only have the one 360 and one PC connected through wired but we have about 20+ devices going through wireless. We use IINET as our ISP and the error I usually get is a NAT error and when it occasionally does work, I get a message saying I have a moderate
NAT. If there is any possible solution to this problem without doing things like port forwarding (I don't really want to do that...) send me back a message

Glad to hear that you've managed to get your console to update properly.

Now, let's see if we can change your NAT's behaviour, from a restricted form, to an open behaviour.

If you haven't already, go ahead and restore your consoles network settings to factory defualts.

Go to Xbox System Settings and select Network Settings. Select
Configure Network and on the Additional Settings tab select
Restore to factory defaults.

Turn off your console.

Access your routers web-utility interface and make sure UPnP (Universal Plug and Play/automatic Port Forwarding) is enabled.

Click "Home Network" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.

Click "Network" in the "Home Network" menu.

Click on the "Network Settings" tab.

Enable the option "Transmit status information over UPnP".

Click "Apply" to save your settings.

Click "Permit Access" in the "Internet" menu.

Click on the "Port Forwarding" tab.

Enable the option "Allow changes to security settings over UPnP".

Click "Apply" to save your settings.

Reboot your FRITZ!Box.

Turn on your console and go to Xbox Network Settings. Select
Test Xbox Live Connection and let us know if your console is still diagnosed with the restricted form of Moderate, or if you see an Open behaviour, where it don't show you any errors related to your NAT's behaviour.

I cannot connect to a modem either. I have had no success downloading the update. Multiple tries but it will not download wirelessly. It will not connect to xbox live unless I download the update yet I cannot download the update. I connected wirelessly just
fine a couple days ago and now it will not connect. I think we need an update for the update.

Sorry about the reply delay, I had been drowning my sorrows in Fifa 12 and F1.

Firstly I tried all the suggestions in the first post, xbox doesnt recognise the CD/USB with the update.

taidara, my xbox is not close enough to the modem for a wired connection.

TMH Army, It is a brand new xbox the first thing I tried doing with it is connect to xbox live, no previous updates installed, tried reconnecting, no difference and my friends are ps3 users.

AssassinG1997, just tried your suggestion, still the same outcome.

and the connection to the internet seems to be fine its just downloading the update is the only issue.

Captain Poder, tried both of you suggestions, first one did not work because my xbox is new and there is no files in the marketplace cache. second just gives the same problem as before.

http://xbox.com/update explains how you can download an update ZIP file, extract it, then take the extracted files and either copy them to a USB Flash drive with 256MB free, or burn it to a DVDR or CDR.
Then, power off the Xbox, load the USB flash drive or the burned disc, and power up to run the update.

That is usually a network problem. You can try power cycling first by hitting your Xbox button and then moving right to.the system menu and selecting restart console. If that doesn't work then unplug every component of your network (modems, routers etc)
and leaving everything unplugged for 30 seconds and then restarting your Xbox again when your network comes back up. That should fix the problem. Come back and let us know if you need more help.
