cannot connect xbox directly to pc

That doesn't work. The HDMI port of your PC is for output to a TV / Projector and not input from an Xbox. It won't work unfortunately.

then either connect it to your monitor if it has a spare hdmi or purchase a capture card so you can connect direct to pc but that would use quite a few resources on your pc.

the answer is NO, any content will download directly to the console. you cannot download content to a pc , unless you can get your console connected to xbox live you will not be able to download the content

In regard to connecting directly to the gateway; that was only possible by connecting the Xbox directly to the router via the one available lan port, and the pc to the router's usb port. Attempt to stream music to the Xbox is halted when the pc can't be
detected. On the pc's end, no network could be detected when attached to the router via usb.

Just for the hell of it I connected the Xbox Ethernet directly to the back of the pc; the Xbox couldn't detect the pc this way either.
