    Cannot connect wireless Xbox 360 controller to Win10 after fresh install


    I recently did a fresh install of Windows 10 after formatting my hard drives.

    Prior to this I had a Xbox360 controller connected to my PC with the wireless Xbox receiver.

    After the Windows 10 install and all system updates, I downloaded the Xbox 360 driver files and pointed device manager to the drivers (as previously) but for some reason it just refuses to recognize the controller.

    I tried the latest Xbox 360 controller for Windows driver (2019) and also the 2009 driver. No recognition of the hardware.

    Also tried the Xbox 360 wireless receiver for Windows 2019 and 2009 driver (further below in the above) and that didn't work either.

    Confirmed that the Xbox 360 wireless receiver is plugged into a USB port as it lights up. Stumped as to why Win 10 refuses to recognise this.

    The support thread on the MS Forums for this leads to a page no longer in existence.

    I downgraded to Windows 10 version 1909. Then permanently disable auto updates

    This isn't an error, they wanted to prevent the third party wireless adapters from working

    Sounds like they want us to spend money to upgrade to an XBOX One adapter and controller!
