Cannot connect to Xbox One on Windows 10

So I wanted to stream my Xbox One S to my Windows 10, but when I clicked the connect button, a grey message popped up saying "We are unable to connect to your console. Make sure your console is still on and connected to the same network as this device."
However my console is on and connected to the same network. Please help.

Hi, no it's not possible, as most laptops have a hdmi out connection, not an hdmi in connection. The only way you can use a laptop as a monitor is to use Windows 10 Xbox app and stream the xbox one to Windows 10 via that method. As you say you have Windows
7, so you cannot do it anyway.

If you followed the instructions from Mrallamagoosa's post, and the PC still doesn't find your console, check if your PC has a third party firewall installed (for example from an Anti-Virus suite like Norton, McAfee, Bitdefender or the likes).

Try to disable or uninstall the Firewall and have the Windows internal firewall do its job.

Hi, make sure your xbox one setting is turned on to allow connection to the Xbox app, and double check that your console & Windows 10 computer are on the same network.

Another thing to check is that you are signed in with the same gamertag both on the app and the xbox.

You cannot use a Xbox 360 controller with your phone, however the newer controllers for Xbox One can be connected, as they support the technology. More info and troubleshooting advice can be found
