Cannot connect to Live

I powered up and was told there was a system update available. It downloaded and installed the update - now I cannot connect to Live! The service announcement says that there are issues with downloading and applications but that gaming and social stuff
is up - not so if I cannot connect to Live! Is it me or is it the system?

Can't sign in to my account.

Yes not working, looks like live is down. If you disconnect the net connection it'll let you load your profile on the One but you cannot connect to the Live servers.

 

Ryse Achievements not unlocking

Live was having some connection issues the thing with achievement is if live is having issues you cannot unlock x1 achievements.
The achievement community was groining about this yesterday as nothing was unlocking

It looks like the Xbox Live service is currently experiencing some issues that's preventing many players from signing in or using any Xbox Live services.

Yeah, that is great - then why does the Live status page claim the following?
