Cannot bear to watch TV through my Xbox One - I have Comcast and the 720 resolution is ...

I have a the highest end Panasonic Plasma 55 inch TV. I have spent hours with Microsoft Tech support, going back the Microsoft store and with Comcast. Xbox One with not push 1080i to my TV. Though my Comcast box is the latest and does have a 1080p setting
(which is turned on) Comcast does not push out a 1080p signal making this setting moot. Comcast does send out a 1080p for the two 3D channels I have but their infrastructure will not support the heavy bandwidth of 1080p on all channels.

This is the first game console I have ever purchased and did so for the integration. It was a present for my child for Xmas but its going back on Jan 15th due to these issues. No one at Microsoft will tell me if they are planning to address the issue and
if so will my current box be able to be fixed with a firmware update or would need a later generation Xbox in the future that has a different hardware configuration.

This is so disappointing as we have been waiting 2 years to make this purchase. I just cannot justify $750.00 for everything I purchased to play some games. If you have a good TV and like to watch sports or beautiful film I would not hook up your Xbox One
through your cable box to your TV.

I challenge Microsoft themselves to actually answer their plans on this post. Today is Jan. 10th, that gives you 5 days to do so, before I return it.

    :)

How do you have your Xbox One connected?

Satellite box via HDMI to One to 50 Plasma. Optical audio to home theatre from TV. The only issue I have is when I "Xbox On" and "Xbox watch TV" the screen resolution is too low. But when I change the resolution on my satellite box from 720/1080 to 1080/720
from one to the other it fixes it... Kind of weird.

I myself cant tell much of a difference between 1080I and 720P. Can your Box output that?

I see very little signal degradation via the x1. I am using Directtv. There is a little but not enough for me to worry about it at the moment.

What model cable box do you have? 1080i works fine for me with a Motorola DCH3416 and the Xbox One. That said, ultimately the resolution depends on the resolution of the source material the content provider provides to Comcast. Some channels do not provide
1080i, only 720p. As far as I know, no channels provide 1080p. If you have your cable box set to output 1080p, it may be upconverting everything to 1080p, and it probably has a mediocre upscaler. Try setting your cable box to output "native." On most Motorola
boxes you will find this option on a hidden setting screen accessed by pressing the menu button on the remote (or box on some models) while the box is powered OFF. For more info, see

  6. I have a DCX-3501 with Comcast and it works perfectly fine with the Xbox One. I have it set to the 1080P/60 setting, which is actually the default on that specific box. The upscaler in this box does a great job, so I don't have the need for using 1080i or
even native. I also had the DCH-3416 back in November\Early Dec and it also worked with either the 720p or 1080i setting.

Many people would like to know when MS is going to patch 1080i support for the Xbox One. There are a lot of people with HDTVs that can only display 1080i and 480p and the Xbox One's is downscaling everything to Standard Definition 480p because the Xbox
    One won't display 1080i.

The only official reason MS has given to the Xbox One's lack of 1080i support is because "fast-moving video, such as sports footage, suffers a slight blur at 1080i". That seems like a ridiculous reason to not include a resolution that many people prefer
over 720p and a resolution that is needed for many people that own HDTVs that can only display 1080i. Most people prefer 1080i over 720p for TV content that doesn't contain fast moving video (which is most TV content besides sports) because 1080i provides
    a higher resolution.

Ok. I work for Comcast and I can tell you that the boxes that have been mentioned you cannot set to 1080p. Don't believe me? Turn your box off then hit the menu button. You will see the highest setting is 1080i. You my have you TV set to 1080p. That being
said, I would recommend not using the pass through if you don't like the way it looks. Most TV's have up to 4 HDMI ports. Using a different HDMI port means you don't have to keep the xbox powered on to watch TV.

I'm sorry but I don't fully understand your issue. I have Comcast and am using the new(er) system of theirs the X1. I have my Comcast box set to 1080p and the same with my One. I also have a Panasonic 55 plasma and everything works fine. I don't understand
why anyone would want a 1080i anything -- it's terrible for anything that has motion. Why would you want the One to push 1080i to your TV. Even 720p is way better than anything interlaced.

I do truly appreciate you all taking time to respond. Here's what matters most to me, image quality. My picture is seriously not as good as before I installed the Xbox. If I take out the XboxOne my GREAT picture returns. 1) Yes, Comcast provides 1080p they
use it for their 3D channels but no others. Yes, I set my box to native so when on those two 3D channel aarrive in 1080p. I think that if riderboarder looked at his cable box when on the 1080i channels he would only see 720 a resolution on the cable box to
the Xbox One. LordGarth99.....you are correct you cannot force it to 1080p so you must set it to native but Comcast will not send 1080p except for 3D channels, see above explanation and the Comcast senior tech told me it takes to much bandwidth on their network
to send it to all HD channels. Your right, I have run another cable directly to a free HDMI on my TV which immediate returns my clear image. The problem: this defeats the purpose of why I bought it. I did not buy this to play games all day, it was to supposed
to integrate my online service's like my HD channels, Netflix, Amazon Prime, have a better guide, voice control, etc. and play some games 5-6 hours a week.

Phuger...Thank you! You are correct, many people posting on line seem to either be MSFT employees or such fan boys they can't see through their rose tinted glasses. Perhaps their monitors are not large and sharp enough to make a difference? Col (fanboy)
Vandal...seriously....please run your cable directly to your TV go to sports or nature in HD. Take a screen shot. Then rewire it through the Xbox One and look at your cable box it will show that same channel is now only coming in 720. I will bet $20 the picture
will be degraded to 4 of 5 (probably all 5) people you bring in the room. I do have several people who come to my house for football Sundays. They all asked what happened to my image once I ran it through the Xbox. I honestly do not mean to be demeaning to
any one but I've spent hours and hours on this issue and officially Microsoft will not touch it. They seem to be burying their head in the sand, hoping it goes away. I am going to have a heartbroken kid; now 4 days and counting till I return it. If they continue
to officially ignore this issue, so be it. Might have to sell my stock too as this is a sign they just don't have it anymore. Interesting note, when I went to their store there were 8 employees and one customer. On way my out of mall went past the Apple store
and there were 5 lines 8 people deep. Sure most were getting help with Xmas purchases but the fact that someone fairly knowledgably was in the store to help shows just how better they are run. The Microsoft store had no idea about my issues, as they do not
have a tv signal, 3 people debated disparate answers when one aggressive employee told me in a patronizing tone that “720p is so much better man”. I about laughed my coffee in his face, then left. One minute in my house viewing the difference would cure these
(tech & spec’s) quoting nuts. Did not mean to offend anyone but this lack of communication on such a critical issue has me very upset. The reason I am putting so much effort in is I want to keep it, I my reduced image quality addressed or at least some idea
    when it might be?

I think there may be some confusion here. It is true that the Xbox One cannot currently output 1080i over its HDMI output, only 720p or 1080p. However, this does NOT necessarily mean that the Xbox One cannot accept a 1080i signal from the cable box connected
to its HDMI input then downscale/upscale that to 720p/1080p (depending on your Xbox One's settings) for output to the TV. It appears to me that it can and does--at least with my DCH-3416, because it is set to 1080i and the 1080i light is illuminated on its
front display whether watching through (A) my Xbox One to AVR to TV or (B) directly to my AVR to TV. I do not notice any significant difference in picture quality between the two methods, and I can switch between them relatively quickly as I have the cable
box output split to output simultaneously to the Xbox One and AVR (using a Monoprice 8204). In my setup, both A and B result in an upscaled 1080p signal being ouput to my TV. I attribute any difference in picture quality there may be to the fact that with
A the Xbox One is doing the upscaling to 1080p and with B my AVR is (and its dedicated upscaler likely gives better results than the Xbox One, which scales using its GPU as I understand it).
