Cannot associate a parent account to an orphaned child account... Error msg "Xbox live ...

I removed my son's account off my account (trying to sort out an issue but that's another story). Now, when he tries to sign into Xbox live it says that the parent account associated with his account is invalid, and asks to change the parent account.
I've been through the steps with 3 different accounts including the original but at the final step it says XBox Live signup is currently unavailable. Each time you go through the verification process, you have to add a credit card, address etc. Not the quickest
thing to do particularly with a controller. I have been in touch with support over live chat and they advised a removal and download of my son's profile and cache refresh. This did not work. Also was told to wait 24 hrs - that didn't work either. Another support
agent has escalated to the advocacy team but that was 4 days ago and have not heard from them. I checked various xbox forums and it seems like this is not unique to me but there are no solutions that have been provided.

My son does not want to lose his saved games and at the moment we have lost access to xbox live gold.

I would appreciate any help and advice.

Removed child from family + child XBOX live account cannot be updated + don't see the GOLD membership anymore

Hi,

I recently bought 2 XBOX live gold memberships for my son (I wanted 2 years). His XBOX live WEB account was clearly showing 2 entries. Unfortunately, the XBOX 360 never detected that my son got a GOLD membership.So I thought that I should remove and re-add
his account to the family (on the XBOX). It did not work at all. Now, when I try to link (XBOX 360) my parent account to his I get something like (translated from French): Cannot associate a parent account to an orphaned child account... Error msg "Xbox live
signup server unavailable". Also when I try to look at his XBOX live GOLD memberships or look at anything else in his account on the XBOX live WEB site I get something like (translated from French): "Uh oh... that shouldn't have happened.".

I also try to promote his account on the XBOX 360 to an adult but it does not help.

My own XBOX live GOLD membership (1 year) is working fine. I can also access and look at everything on my XBOX live WEB page.

What should I do now?

At worst I don't mind to re-create an XBOX 360 profile and a XBOX live account (and to link it to my parent account) BUT I DON'T WANT TO LOSE THE 2 YEARS OF MEMBERSHIP.

Xbox Parent Account is not valid.

I have the same problem though when I put the details of the new parent account in and go to accept the terms of privacy and stuff it says "the xbox live signup server is unavailable"----- how might I troubleshoot this error?

Hello JacynSolo,

Sorry to see that you're having trouble with an issue with this. At this time you are only asking for help, and really no one should really try and give you a resolution at this stage due to there being an escalation to Higher support.

But regardless, my advice at this current stage would to be get back to customer support and quote your reference and ask if there is an update onthe issue from higher support you are unaware of.

Please note that it would not be advised to repeatedly asking them to make a followup to them, as frustrating as it may be not to because all you want to do is get your accounts sorted out, as it will just delay it even more.

Let me know how you get on with the escalation, and sorry I couldn't offer any resolution advice.

As an update, support were able to resolve my issue. I had to SRT up new parent and child accounts which were them linked to the existing cold gamer tag behind the scenes.

In my case , the problem is affecting the child accounts associated to my parent account. I was trying to reassign the parent account for the child accounts & I am now getting the same exact error. Now the child accounts are in the following state:

1. I cannot assign the child Xbox Live account to their own Microsoft account that is of legal age. I don't get an error, but the association is refused because a child account cannot be associated to itself as a parent. Their Microsoft accounts are of
legal age, but the association is refused nonetheless.

2. I cannot re-assign the child Xbox Live accounts back to either of my 2 Microsoft accounts. The error I get states that the Microsoft sign-up services are not available. I can however create a new trial account with a trial code, so at a minimum sign-up
services are available in some part.

3. I cannot manage any of the child accounts on xbox.com. Attempting to access the account management features results in the IIS exception error referenced in the original post.

4. The child accounts can no longer sign-in to Xbox Live from any of 4 consoles that I have in my home. The sign-in process is blocked with a message that states "the parent account is not valid. please specify a new parent account to continue." ... which
I proceed to do, but then experience either problem 1, 2, or 3 listed above.

Some have stated that the browser, cache, cookies, etc. could be the problem, but I have this problem from any browser on any computer in my house for the accounts with this problem. Also my account is still working correctly, and I can access the account
management pages while the other accounts continue to error.

Basically, it would appear that my children have been orphaned & I must be speaking from beyond the grave.

The child account will be orphaned, hence, no parent account will be able to make changes on their privacy and online safety settings.

You see the following error and message when you try to sign in to Xbox Live using a child account:

Before you can sign in here, you'll need to sign in at Xbox.com.

An adult will also need to sign in so they can give permission.

Code: 83118853

This means that the parent account must provide permission for each associated child account (under age 13) before the child can access Xbox Live

Solution:

To resolve this issue, have the child account sign in to Xbox.com. Then, when prompted, the parent account associated with the child account should sign in to Xbox.com and give permission for the child account to sign in to Xbox Live.

If you keep experiencing the problem, contact Xbox Support.
