    Cannot add to my family account on new Xbox One S


    Christmas 2016 my son purchased an Xbox One for his son and installed it in the boy's bedroom at their home. All was well.

    Unfortunately my son and his wife are divorcing and my son has moved into my house.

    Christmas 2017 my son buys another Xbox One S so that his son will have one to use while he has custody of the boy at my house. We set this Xbox up with my Microsoft Account and the primary and my credit card information. I immediately purchased an Xbox
    Live Gold subscription for $60. Subsequently my son and grandson logged into the new Xbox.

    I want to share this Gold account on our new Xbox so the grandson can play online with two of his good friends. The instructions imply that I have to add both Son and Grandson as members of my family on the new box.

    It appears that I CANNOT add them to my Xbox. I've tried repeatedly. Reading some of the support information I THINK this may be because my son and grandson are a family on the older Xbox at the old house. They would be required to leave that family to
    join mine. There are some reasons this makes sense but in our circumstance it is a real problem.

    The divorce scenario is not uncommon today and there should be some way to allow the grandson to play on BOTH consoles short of carrying a console around with him.

    I have no problem buying him games, even games that are on the old console - I doubt his mother would let us near it.

    Is there any way to do this short of setting up the Grandson a completely new account. If I do that I think he looses everything he has saved so far. We also want him to be able to play online with two of his friends.

    how to add child account to my family through the Xbox website?

    A long time ago I added my child's account to my family via the Xbox 360. However, he does not show up on my family on the Xbox One, nor on the Xbox website. I cannot add him to my family through the menu on the Xbox One, as he is 'already in a family'.
    I cannot find the functionality to add him to my family on the Xbox website - is this possible?

    They don't have to join your family in order to share your gold. You would need to set the console as your Home console in order to share the gold and then all they would have to do is sign into their accounts on the console. My Home Xbox Setting on Xbox One | Share Your Xbox One

    They don't have to join your family in order to share your gold. You would need to set the console as your Home console in order to share the gold and then all they would have to do is sign into their accounts on the console. https://support.xbox.com/en-US/games/game-setup/my-home-xbox

    As far as I'm concerned, you cannot combine two accounts into one. You can, however, add accounts to an Xbox One family.

    yes home console setting changed the mechanism

    change child account to adult account still does not work - I can remove the child from family and add it as adult but when I remove the account from family this account cannot login on its Xbox One S without a parental permission even the account is not
    part of a family anymore - thats strange

    why I want to remove the account from family: its because this account cannot download Xbox 360 gold games - always getting "Your account is unable to make this type of purchase on Xbox.com. Please complete this transaction from your Xbox" - support page
    says I have to download the game from Xbox 360 but only Xbox One S is available also tried that via browser - still not working.

    did anyone experience something similiar?

    Same problem here. Created two new outlook accounts for my kids and it won't let me add them to my family. I get the cannot add child they are already a member of another family error. Hopefully they fix this soon!
