    Cannot add profile


    I haven’t been able to add a new profile for almost a week.

    Whenever I click “add new” profile, I see a black screen with a white spinning circle for a minute or so, and then it returns to the home screen, with no error message.

    I have tried the following;

    1. Reset my wifi (dozens of times)

    2. Hard reset my console (dozens of times)

    3. Connected to my phone’s hotspot

    4. Connected to router with a hard line (ethernet)

    5. Unplugged console for 24 hours

    6. Reset xbox to factory settings - which means i now have no profiles and cannot play at all! I recommend this suggestion is removed from the troubleshooting steps as it just makes things worse.

    This problem is occurring on both my Series X and Xbox One, so I highly doubt it’s an issue with both consoles. This issue started after the most recent console update.

    Connecting to a different network is not a viable option, as I can’t just ask my neighbours.

    I need a) any other suggestions, b) a reliable console.

    Thank you for your speedy reply. As I mentioned, I performed a factory reset on my console and that left me with any profiles, unable to add my main back, so completely unable to play. I had already tried alternating the MAC address but forgot to mention that while writing all of the other recommended troubleshooting steps which I had followed in vain. All to no avail.

    For anyone else who encounters this problem, this is what I did to finally get my Xbox working; went to advanced network settings, switched the DNS from automatic to manual, and entered 4.2.2.2 in both fields. Worked immediately.

    Thank you for reaching Microsoft Xbox Forum support. I want you not to worry about the situation because I am here to help you out! I believe your console might need either a network reset or just a system refresh. I would like you to go through the following steps to clear the Mac address and then perform a quick power cycle on your console:

    Settings > Network Settings > Advanced Settings > Alternate Mac Address > Clear it and the console should restart. It would definitely help if you could restart the internet router while the console is restarting.

    After going through the troubleshooting steps mentioned, I invite you to perform a quick power cycle by turning off the console and then unplugging all the cables. After 2 to 3 minutes, re-plug them back again, then restart your console.

    Another thing you should check is your NAT type. I would like you to check your NAT type if open because that could sometimes interfere. to check for the NAT type you can follow the steps below:

    Settings > Network Settings > NAT type => It should be open.

    If the NAT type is not open, you will need to open some ports with your internet provider. These ports must be open for Xbox Live to work: Port 88 (UDP) Port 3074 (UDP and TCP) Port 53 (UDP and TCP) Port 80 (TCP) Port 500 (UDP) Port 3544 (UDP) Port 4500 (UDP).

    In case the issue still persists, the next step would be to perform a reset on the console. To do so you will need to follow the steps below to perform a reset on the Xbox :

    Settings > System > Console Info > Reset This Xbox > Reset and Keep my Games and Apps.

    Note =>The "Reset and Keep my Games and Apps" option will not cause losing your games, but please be aware that you need to be completely aware of the email address as well as the password of your account before going for it because it will require you to sign in to the account.

    Sorry, but you cannot merge two profiles together. You have already created an online profile. You cannot add or merge an offline profile to it.

    The Family Gold membership was actually discontinued as of November 22. What they did was convert all of the accounts into an individual account and gave each account the remaining time on the family pack plus a bonus 3 months. You should have received an
    email in August about this change.
