  1. Cannot add new payment method - cannot remove old one - broken website


    This is the third time I've had to go through this, and no one seems terribly interested in fixing it

    Sequence of events:

    1. Cancel old credit card, get new one
    2. Try to purchase something on xbox live
    3. Transaction fails as card is cancelled
    4. Go to xbox.com and try to update my payment methods
    5. Go to Payment Methods, add the new card
    6. Try to remove old card, cannot because its linked to xbox live subscription
    7. Go to Subscriptions, try to add new card
    8. Card cannot be added because its "already been added"!!!!
    9. So the new card cannot be added, because its already there, but you still cannot select it to back your xbox live subscription
    10. So now you're stuck, and the website is basically non functional for this situation
    11. Contact support chat
    12. Spend THIRTY FREAKING MINUTES talking to someone who types painfully slow and ignores everything you say while going through a script
    13. Find out at the end that nothing can be changed for 24 hours after adding a new card (according to support)
    This has been like this for months, maybe more than a year. This is the third *** time I've had to go through this.

    Why on earth are you making it so hard to update my payment methods.

    Nearly every other vendor I deal with makes this fast and e

    removing a payment option

    In order to remove your payment method from your XBOX Live account 3 conditions need to be met.

    • Automatic Renewal needs to be turned off. To learn how to do this click
      here
      .
    • Your account cannot have an XBOX Live Gold Subscription on it.
    • You cannot have any sort of billing/payment violations on the account (ie: past due payments/expired credit card)
    If your card is expired, you will need to add a new payment method before being able to remove the old expired card.

    You would need to add a new valid payment method before removing the old one. If you call phone support to forcibly remove this payment method, it will cancel your LIVE subscription.

    Just to be clear, the nonsense at the end is the forum software going insane, and using broken *** javascript to override everything I type and fill it in backwards.

    Does anyone even test these things before releasing them??

    Hey mate,

    Have you tried updating your payment methods through the actual microsoft website, as opposed to xbox.com? Its exactly the same as updating it through Xbox.com, however you might have some more luck. Link: billing.microsoft.com

    I'm thinking that might be a good option, as the issue's might be coming from the xbox website, as opposed to your account or something like that.

    Also, just make sure you don't have 'auto-renewal' turned on, as that may be whats preventing you from removing it. I believe thats done through the subscriptions page. That is just a stab in the dark though, as it seems logical that the error your getting
    is because your card is still attached to something, and the only thing I could think that would be is auto renewal.

    This is exactly my problem. My old card, which has expired, was set to the auto renewal of membership, so obviously it failed to renew last time and Therefore I dont have gold subscription currently. However, I cannot add a new card to pay because "you can
    only have one payment option connected to auto renewal" (which I shouldn't have anymore since it has expired). But also I can't remove the old card from payment options because it is connected to auto renewal, so I have to cancel the subscription for Xbox
    Live Gold membership first. BUT since the card has expired my Xbox live Gold membership has also expired and obviously I can't cancel something I don't have (it doesn't give me the option of cancelling the membership in the subscriptions menu). So, it seems

    Have you tried turning the auto renewal off before then changing your payment method?
