    Cannot Access Minecraft Java Edition


    I have owned MC Java since long before the MS buyout. Now I can't access it because somehow my MC account has merged with my son's Xbox account, and it seems my ownership of Java edition has disappeared. My wife and I have both lost access, and it might mean never playing again for both of us. Not offering phone support has added insult to injury. I have been back-and-forth via email for months with no resolution. Shame on Microsoft for ruining our entire family's favorite game.

    Minecraft Launcher not recognizing my owned games

    I just accessed it with the old launcher and it was able to recognize that I own Minecraft Java Edition. However, I cannot access Minecraft for Windows with that launcher and thus I cannot play Windows Edition.

    I saw that anyone who buys minecraft java edition is entitled to minecraft Windows 10. Is the reverse also true? Who buys minecraft windows 10 is entitled to minecraft java edition?

    If so, how do I access the java edition version at no additional cost?

    Minecraft for Windows, as it is, cannot be used on Xbox consoles. However, Minecraft for Windows is essentially Minecraft Bedrock Edition, which is the same edition used on Xbox consoles. That's why, for example, the Realms in Minecraft for Windows are the same as Minecraft Bedrock for Xbox consoles. In contrast, Minecraft Java Edition Realms are exclusive to PC and only accept Java Edition players.

    This is why most servers, even if they are third-party, have the same player compatibility system. It's highly likely that the server you're trying to access is intended for the Java version of Minecraft. That's why it doesn't allow you to log in from the Minecraft for Windows (Bedrock) edition, while it does allow access from the Java edition of the game.

    It's essential to clarify that "Minecraft for Windows" refers to Minecraft Bedrock, but that's how Mojang decided to name it on the PC platform, which can lead to confusion.

    Minecraft Java Edition can be purchased from thier store page using your Microsoft Account:

    And then being accessed with the (free) Minecraft Launcher on the Microsoft Store.

    Both Windows and Java Editions are included with Xbox Game Pass for PC/Ultimate subscription.
