how do i cancel monthly subscriptions on the xbox one. When i go into manage it just gives me the option to change payment

You can cancel your Xbox subscription either immediately or by stopping automatic renewal.

If you cancel your Xbox subscription immediately, you’ll also lose access to the subscription service at the same time. If you stop automatically renewing your subscription, you can continue to use the subscription service until it expires.

Can you offer any explanation as to why you cannot cancel this on the console itself?

I own an xbox one x, xbox one s, xbox one and have had a number of 360's and originals. I find MS making it more difficult for people to stop paying you instead of starting to pay you for the gold subscription service a questionable user experience practice
to say the least.

Why happily allow us to set up payment methods for subscriptions while denying us the option of cancelling it in the same manner?

Feature wise this is a backwards step. You only have to google to see how many people are wondering why this is the case. We the general unwashed masses are stupid as alleged sales figures show but lets see what happens when the PS5 drops.

This appears to be a choice made by a committee of bean-counters who i am sure described this as an "innovative feature". If they look longer term they could make even more beans with a product designed well for us the paying users.

for a subscription it might be best to immediately cancel the subscription, that usually will show what will be refunded for the time that was remaining for the subscription.

If you cancel the subscription now you would lose all that time that you have on the gold subscription.

When upgrading to the Ultimate game pass subscription it combines the subscriptions into one subscription and if you cancel this subscription it cancels all of it.

Steps to cancel:

Go to the Microsoft subscriptions page: Go to the Microsoft website at https://account.microsoft.com/services and sign in to your account.

Find the subscription: Find the game subscription you want to cancel.

Manage subscription: Click "Manage".

Cancel: Select the "Cancel subscription" option.

Choose the method: You can choose to cancel the subscription immediately with a partial refund or allow the subscription to end at the end of the current period.

Confirm: Follow the instructions to confirm the cancellation.

It will have all the steps on how to stop/cancel a subscription.

Keep in mind that if there is an payment due, that will need to be paid prior being able to cancel the subscription.

Head to the Microsoft account page.

Find the subscription tab and locate the realm that you wish to cancel.

Select the "Manage Subscription" button.

Cancel the subscription.

Ensure the subscription is canceled and then close the page.
