Canadians now have to pay more for games

I don't know if you guys noticed but there's a new trend starting. Canadian retailers(Futureshop, BestBuy, EbGames, I'm sure there's more) are starting to charge us more for games while Americans still pay the same price of 59.99$.

South Park: The stick of truth is 64.99$

Destiny is available for preorder at 69.99$!

Sure they'll say that it's because of the weaker Canadian dollar, but when our dollar was stronger then the American dollar, games where still the same price.

I just hope Xbox doesn't follow this trend and start charging us more for Digital Downloads...If they don't, if they keep things at 59.99$, well, just another reason to go Digital.

    :)

Why are games more EXPENSIVE after Xbox One launch? $69.99 vs $59.99

Companies abusing the exchange rate as a mechanism to gouge profit is nothing new in Canada.

Just look at the cross boarder car industry, where cars produced in Canada cost more to buy in Canada than the US. Far more than the exchange rates. And when Canadians travel to the US, to buy their OWN cars back, they are sometimes banned from purchasing
them, depending on the dealership to keep this scam running.

The Ultimate Games Sale....really I think that's what it should be called for United States 360 customers, not Canadians.

I see that today "The Ultimate Games Sale" was launched. I was sadly disappointed to see that we Canadians are paying twice as much as United States XBOX live customers for exactly the same content. What a ripoff!! When the Canadian $ is near parity
with the US$, I would expect we would be looking at the same price give or take a few cents. Microsoft should be ashamed for gouging the Canadian customers. This is absolutely unacceptable.

GRID in the US is $4.99, Canadians can pay $9.99

Halo 3 in the US is $9.99, Canadians can pay $19.99

Halo Reach in the US is $9.99, Canadians can pay $19.99

Thanks for rewarding loyal Canadian customers.

Exactly, not new at all. Stores always charge more than the MSRP. That's why you need to shop around to find the best deals.

Might not be a new trend but it's been a long time since I've seen a game cost over 59.99$. Resident Evil 5 and Fallout 3 are the only ones I can think of, maybe Star Ocean too.

Usually BB and FS always have the lowest prices otherwise they'll match it and give you 10% of the difference off. For those that want a physical copy you can use that to your advantage, save 1$, I see walmart.ca has Destiny priced at 59.99$.

I was hoping we'd start paying LESS for video games instead of more. Never understood why pc gamers pay less for a superior version. They need to start pricing digital games between 49.99$ - 54.99$ and I'm sure more people will start getting into it. Especially
if the physical copy is 69.99$.

To be honest. The US is a completely different country, with it's own economy. They also have a market that is 10 times larger then Canada's. Prices will be different it's just a fact of life.

Umm, that's no excuse for accepting this crap. Games are getting expensive because of the exchange rate. But, even when it was higher, we still were paying more for stuff. A big reason why companies charge us more is because people seem to just accept it,
which is ridiculous. Start voting with your wallet.

Well, Xbox games on demand is only charging 59.99$ for South Park. Glad to see that at least xbox didn't raise their prices. Now they just need to give us the ability to resale Digital Games and I'm sure more and more people will get into it.

A game like South Park has no replay value, after you finish the 10 hour campaign you're pretty much done with the game, if they would let us resale the digital copy, that money would be used to buy other games. Meaning, the game developers would be getting
the more money instead of retailers like EB, FS and BB.

You do have to shop around now. The excuse is that the Canadian dollar is losing value lately. That's BS though since when we were worth more than the American dollar a while back , game prices didn't go down.

I managed to pick up Stick of truth Grand Wizard edition for the price of the regular edition from Futureshop.

Other stores also still sell games for 59.99 rather than 64.99

@Law212 Futureshop is selling the Grand Wizard Edition for $84.99 so I have no clue how you got it so cheap, someone must have made a mistake or you got it used.

As long as other stores still sell the games at 59.99, FS & BB will have to price match it and pay 10% of the difference. Let's just hope the other stores don't give in to this. Yeah I know it's only 5$, but soon that 5 will be 10, then 15 and so on...

And so it begins...Sony has announced that they're raising the price of the PS4 in Canada from 399$ to 449$. New games are also going up in price, Infamous and MLB14 will be 69.99$.

Fortunately Microsoft said that they will NOT be raising the price of the Xbox One. Good job MS! As long as the price of Digital games remain the same, I'll be happy.

such is life my ***! I will never buy a game at 69.99. simply put games always go on sale and there is always a way to get it for 39,99 or less. I use shopbot.ca, amazon.ca, ebay.ca/com, kijiji, doesn't matter but no way no how a company will get the full
amount they charge on release from me. Too bad not all canadians follow suite. Already bad enough the game will be 69.99 but the downloadable content will also add 15-20$. Screw them! I paid my console, I'm paying xbox live service (also at a discount), why
the hell should I have to pay full price for a game? Especially when I'm looking to buy digital copies but they tend no to have good sales.
