Canadian Xbox 360 in France. Power supply issues

Hello everybody!

I'm in need of advices. I bought a Xbox 360 slim in Montréal and now I live in France. I tried to plug it in and the power supply started to burn. I'm wondering if it is safe to buy a french power supply and connect it to my canadian Xbox. Will it work
?

Using an Australian Xbox 360 in Canada

Hi there, Canadian consoles use power supplies with 120V @ 60Hz whereas Aussie consoles with 240V @ 50Hz and I believe this is to do with what power comes out of the outlet so I would definitely say that's where your issue is stemming from.

As the power supply is only compatible with the PSU of the consoles region, I don't think you can just get a Canadian power supply as it won't plug in the back, see here for more information:

Can you use a Canadian Xbox 360 S Power supply on a UAE Xbox 360 S?

I recently bought an Xbox in the UAE and brought it back to Canada with me. I know there are differences in power and voltage between the two countries so my power supply won't work. Will buying and using an Xbox 360 S power supply brick here in Canada (with
the Canadian specs) fix this problem?.

No it will not as a Canadian Xbox 360 use 110V and here in France we use 220V so it will damage your console, you will have to buy a 110v/220v converter to be able to use your Canadian console in France.

When you buy a power converter as mentioned by Boombaa, keep in mind that your current PSU is possibly fried.

You need to repair it or swap it with a working PSU.

I can say from experience that the power converters do work very nicely for this, However you will most likely need to replace your current power supply or repair it as a burning smell will usually mean that you have damaged/blown the capacitor inside
the power supply.

 

I own a Japanese Xbox 360 (110v) (Slim v1) and I live in France too. I just bought a Power Supply PAL to use with my console. Never had any problems.

I dont think that be very different with a Canadian Xbox 360, or like say before, you can buy a converter, but need to check the Intensity / Amper (I have an old one that I use for my olds japanese consoles, he works great, but not with the Power Supply

It is correct, I have just bought a new power supply PAL , no converter and working perfectly.

Pretty sure you can find out informations about that on shmups forums (even if it is for JP > PAL). I dont think be different with a Canadian 360. After all, the Power Supply already converted the voltage and intensity for the console.
So, you have just need a 220v supply.

I had to buy a new power supply anyway so before I get a converter, I'll try to use just the new supply.

Solved: Thanks everybody it works fine. At the end I simply had to buy a french power supply, no converter was needed.
