Can You Transfer An External Hard Drive Between Two Xbox One Systems Without Reformatting?

I have to apologize in advance because I think I put this in the wrong spot previously.

I'm about to get a new Xbox One. Why? Because the disc drive/bluray drive in my 1 TB Call of Duty system sucks. Blurays and dvds freeze every 10-20 minutes during playback(sometimes even more often) and even when putting in brand new disc they sometimes
won't play and I get the error message to check my disc to make sure it isn't dirty. And then there's also the issue that the disc sometimes won't come out when I push eject. I know I can solve the last one with a paperclip inserted in the side or by rebooting
the system but it's still annoying that I have to do this with a system that is roughly only 14 months old.

Currently I have an 8 TB external hard drive for my extra data. I know that I can use this on any Xbox One but my question is: do I have to reformat it for each Xbox One I use it on? Because I need to have something to save all my game saves on when transferring
to a new Xbox One(one that hopefully works correct without all the disc drive/bluray drive errors). But if the new Xbox One is going to force me to reformat it then I would lose everything again. Does anyone know if you have to reformat your external hard
drive on a second Xbox One? And if so would there be any other work around for this?

You can plug your external drive into any Xbox One sign into ,your profile and be fine. No reformat ever needed.

 

You can move it freely between consoles. No special changes are required.

 

So just to be clear I won't have to reformat my external hard drive when I plug it into a new Xbox One with saved data from the original Xbox One?

 

No you will not have to reformat the drive.

 

It will simply be plug-and-play on the new console. The drive is already formatted for Xbox One, meaning you don't need to reformat again.

Saves, though, will be synced using the Cloud (there's no way to manually move these around, unlike on Xbox 360). After you have downloaded your profile to the new console, when you boot up a game it will sync your game saves from the cloud to the hard drive
and you won't lose any progress, provided you are usually connected to Xbox Live when playing on your console.

 

Just curious, did your issues start after the New Xbox Experience update(what a joke, should have called the "Make Your System Buggy Update")? I have had video "stutter" issues since the update, and supposedly they will be fixed in Feb with the next big
update, including Blu Ray issues.

@CORBENDEN--Weirdly enough when the New Xbox Experience first launched it fixed my bluray playback issues. But a few weeks later not only did they return but now even dvd's will freeze up. That didn't happen until the NXE. I will wait for the next update
but if that doesn't work I'm just going to trade it in and get a new Xbox One.
