Can you not switch Xbox one hard drives or disk drives from one console to the other?

Hi there consoles should not be opened or tampered with, Once you break the seal in the back of the console you've voided out the warranty on both of them. For future reference its recommended you post any xbox one issues here for support. If you would have
signed in on the new one yes you would've had to redwnload every game but your saves would still be there.

When you attach an external hard drive to the Xbox One and choose to format it for use with the console, the system changes the formatting of the drive to the one that the console uses. Once this is done, your PC will not recognise the drive for data storage,
but it should know that it is attached.

To enable you to use the drive again on your PC, it must be re-configured. To do this you need to load the 'Disk Management' tool. If you're running Windows 8 the quickest way you can access the Disk Manager is by Holding down the Windows Key and pressing
X then selecting 'Disk Management' from there. In Windows 8.1 you can right click on the START button and select it.

To quickest way to access Disk Management on Vista and Windows 7 is via the Run program on the Start Button and typing in diskmgmt.msc and pressing Enter or the OK button.

If your hard drive is in working order, it will be detected in Disk Management and you will be prompted to 'Initialise the device'. This will then make the drive available in Windows, but it will be formatted again only Windows use.

At present it isn't possible to use an external hard drive for Xbox One and PC use, it has to be one or the other.

The goal of the cable is that you can go from your OLD console to a new gen xbox 360 console. The cable is not made to install games on that hard drive, only transfer data from one disk to the other. I hope this helped you.

No, you do not need to install the play disk. The first disk titled, "install" will install the entire game on your hard drive, it may take some time, around 10-15 minutes. After the game is on your hard drive the "install" disk is not needed any more,
unless you install the game on a different hard drive. The second disk titled, "play" is what you play in the disk tray to play the game.

As for the hard drive issue, I definitely recommend trying what fredgiblet said.

To delete files and switch your hard drive:

1. Go to the Xbox dashboard

2. Once on the dashboard, scroll to the right, all the way till you get to the settings tab

3. Click on system, then on storage. A screen will pop up showing how much memory is available on your hard drive. Click on your hard drive.

4. A list of all your games, videos, demos and other downloads will pop up. Find the gta 5 files, click on them and select delete. Just so you know, even if you delete all your gta 5 files, achievements will not be affected, your saves and progress in the
game will be affected. It might require that you start the campaign or multiplayer from the beginning.

5. Once all of your gta 5 hard drive files are deleted, turn your Xbox console off, remove the hard drive, and add the new or other hard drive. I think you can only change hard drives for the old Xbox 360. Not sure if the newer models come with changeable
hard drives.

By the way, if you replace or add a new hard drive you need to buy a "hard drive transfer cable" that transfers content from one hard drive to the other. It is available at your local game store.

Also, in order to transfer content from one hard drive to another. The old or current hard drive needs to be connected to the console, while the new hard drive needs to be connected to the cable. The transfer cable comes with directions, just follow them.

Once all the content has been transferred turn the console off, insert the new hard drive, turn the console on, insert the "install" disc for gta 5 and try loading the files again.

Where did you purchase the hard drives from? It may be possible that one of the drives is not an official Microsoft drive. Try switching the drives on the console and see if the games will play on the one that they weren't before to test that.
