    In general, when you change your gamertag, there's the option to customize how your tag will look on Xbox games that don't support the new gamertag system. For example lets say that I want my gamtertag to be example123 and for the games without the new system let's say that I want to be called SomethingElseQ.

    Now in my case, my gamertag is and for the games without the new system is 2349. I was wondering if I could change my gamertag on games without the new system (2349 in my case) without changing my gamertag for the new system ( in my case). From what I've tried, I can't do that without completely changing my gamertag, which I don't want to.

    Unable to change gamertag

    I'm trying to change my classic gamertag which is the one you see in games. My classic gamertag got changed and my Xbox One and Xbox App gamertag stayed the same (the Xbox One gamertag is the ones they added with the new gamertag system).

    My Xbox One gamertag is different to my in-game gamertag and I want my classic gamertag to be changed. You can only change your classic gamertag on the Xbox One console, I have tried using the other ways and you can only change your Xbox Gamertag, not your
    classic gamertag.

    The reason I want to change my classic gamertag is that the classic gamertag can be fifteen characters and the Xbox One gamertag can only be 12 characters. If I use the other ways to change my gamertag it limits me to 12 characters and sets both my gamertags
    to that.

    It's 12 characters for Xbox One, Xbox Series & Windows 10 platforms. 15 characters if you're on Xbox 360.

    From what I've tried, I can't do that without completely changing my gamertag, which I don't want to.
    That is correct. The only way to avoid having the numbers is to think of a Gamertag nobody else has.

    Limit of 11 characters

    However you only get the hashtag if the name already exists

    Depending on how you changed your tag, you can have a new gamertag as well as a classic gamertag. The classic tag would show up anywhere that the new gamertag system is not in place. The only way to fix it is to change it again.
