can xbox one controller run on NiMH (Nickel Metal Hydride) batteries?

I know that the charge and play kit for the xb one controller is lithium ion, but can I safely use NiMH batteries with the controller?

For AA batteries, there's many options available, too. Besides standard disposable Alkaline batteries (Duracell, Energizer, Rayovac, etc) you could also try Energizer Ultimate Lithium batteries for the longest play time!

Or, just buy rechargeable Nickel Metal Hydride AAs & a charger for them, and use those! I recommend sticking with either Energizer or Duracell in that regard, because the Rayovac rechargeable NiMH batteries & chargers are faulty. They are far more likely
to have problems with overheating during charging and/or batteries leaking. I've never had any issues at all with Energizer Rechargeable NiMH AA batteries & chargers.

 

Will the Xbox One have rechargeable or regular batteries?

I think it should accept regular batteries AA or AAA. If it's an internal battery which can only be charged via USB, not AC adaptor, then the controller is a fail. Because USB charging is much slower compared to AC adaptor power.

A controller is a high drain device. Take the wireless 360 controller. I use Engergizer rechargable Nickel Metal Hydride 2450 mAh AA batteries and on a full charge provide about 20 hours of use for my controller.

 

I use some Sanyo Eneloop XX high capacity NiMH batteries in all my controllers. Great brand, but to really get the most out of them you will also need a dedicated smart battery charger.

So yeah NiMH is perfectly fine.

Yeah I use them in the Xbox One controller. Get around 20-22 hours without the headset adapter and around 17 hours with the headset adapter plugged in. The only slight annoyance is a completely charged set will show up at like 90% capacity since it's expecting
alkaline batteries. The low battery warning is dead on. Once that shows up in 10-15 minutes my controller shuts off.

based on what you had said about the nimh batteries lasting between 10 to 15 minutes when the low battery indicator goes on, does that apply to the alkaline batteries as well?

 

Alkaline last a bit longer 20-30 minutes before the voltage drops low enough to shut the controller off. NiMH always have a slightly lower voltage so when their charge is used up it's a much sharper drop off. The NiMH really do completely discharged being
used in the controller though. They're 2,400 mAh and the smart charger puts around 2,700 2,800 mAh in which is the same when I first bought them and ran a full test cycle on them with the charger.
