Can two players share an Xbox Gold Account?

Hi there,

My son saved up all his Christmas and birthday money to buy a second xbox console in order that he could play Fortnite against his brother.

We have now set up both Xboxes and a separate account for each of them (let's say Account1 and Account2). Account1 is able to sign in and play all games on either console. Account2 can sign in to either console and play all digital games except Fornite.

We have paid for an xbox gold account for Account1 which he can access on both consoles. When Account2 tries to access this through his account he gets the message "Unable to sign into your account for xbox live. Please try again later." Do we
need to purchase a second xbox live account for him? We thought they would be able to both share the one account and play each other using that? Is this not possible?

Any help on this would be massively appreciated - we are not overly technical and just cannot seem to get access for the both no matter how many youtube help videos we watch!

Gold can be shared between the two acounts using family sharing.

Only two consoles at a time can be paired using family sharing, keep in mind downloadable content such as in-game currency and some pre-order bonuses may not transfer.

The Xbox One can share a gold subscription, but only on the same console. If they're playing on two different consoles with two different accounts, you would need a separate gold subscription.

ok. Thanks for the help. How about this scenario.

Xbox 1 - Set as my Home Xbox with Gold, but uses separate free membership account.

Xbox 2- Set as Home Xbox with free membership, but I sign in and play with The Gold account.

Would this allow the two consoles to share Xbox Live? Or am I missing something here?

If the gold is tied to your account, you would be sharing gold in either scenario. You can only share gold on one console at a time. You can set another console as your Home console so you can share your gold there, and you can use your gold on any console
you sign into.

You'll need two Gold accounts for them to play. You can share one with your Home Xbox including games.
