Can the Xbox One be controlled by a USB to IR receiver?

I know there is an IR OUT port on the back of the Xbox One that allows the Xbox One to blast IR signals to other devices. I'm not talking about that.

What I want is a USB to IR receiver that plays nice with the Xbox One. So a simple cable with an IR receiver on it that plugs into one of the USB ports on the Xbox One. There are many of these cables out there but I don't know if the Xbox One would recognize
them...I know the Xbox uses weird wireless protocols with controllers and can send IR out via Kinect or the IR OUT port and it also has IR receiving on the main unit (my Harmony remote can send IR to it) but I don't know if a USB to IR receiver would work..

The Xbox 360 actually had one of these cables that came with the SceneIt? games (apparently the dumb dumbs that made the game couldn't figure out (or couldn't afford whatever licensing fees) the Xbox wireless protocol so they HAD to have such a device).

The whole purpose of what I would be doing is simply control the Xbox One from another room (not line-of-sight) so I would need an IR receiver extension cable...

    Thanks for reading Xbox'rs.

    :)

    Is Microsoft doing TV wrong?

it needs to be tuned on a pc via tv tuner card or a cable box. your tv probably also has a tuner built into it.

at this time there hasnt been any information about how a pc will work with the hdmi pass through. but it will probably require an usb ir adapter for a universal remote which can be controlled by the kinect ir blaster. i really cant see it working any other
way. though i dont really understand how the cable box pass through works either.

Xb1 cannot turn off/on my dish reciever

Your Dish receiver is controlled by remote control commands sent from Kinect - so your Dish box and Kinect would need to be in the same room.

As a work around if that's not how your room is set up, there is a jack on the back of Xbox One which takes a standard IR blaster cable. The jack is the same shape and size as a headphone jack. You can then run the IR blaster cable to your dish box.

    X Box One IR Code

The Xbox One with Kinect allows IR blasting and is not a receiver, so no IR remote can control the X1

    Cant control Dish Network Joey

So, DISH support will still tell you that the Joey does not have IR, which is false. Here is how you can get your Xbox one to control the Joey. This is the IR method. It should work via HDMI CEC, but for my setup it won't.

    • On your Joey. Menu - Settings - Remote Manger - IR - enable
    • The IR receiver on the Joey is on the horizontal bar between the power button and system info button
    • Plug an IR blaster into the IR port on your Xbox One
    • Tape the IR extender over the IR receiver on the Joey
    • Go into XBOX settings and select the Dish Joey as your receiver
    Controls should work!

Syncing Xbox media remote on a series X

Hi, the Xbox Media Remote controller does not get paired with your console instead it uses the IR blaster.

Do your consoles are near or next to each other? Try by removing the batteries for a few seconds and by blocking the IR receiver from your Xbox One Console so the Series X gets the commands (aim to the button next to the USB port in the front of the console).

xbox one media remote control tv volume WITHOUT Kinect ... possible?

    No, it's not a universal remote: (www.xbox.com/.../media-remote)

The remote controls TV/receiver power and volume through Kinect, or an IR extender cable (cable not included).

You need Kinect or IR Extenders.

How do I use IR Port in back?

Does the xbox IR port repeat any remote I point at the kinect? My xbox one is at front of room (as there is no 40ft kinect extension cable). The rest of my equipment is in a closet, it includes items not controllable via xbox. Can I plug an IR extender
cable into the IR output port and use tho kinect to receive IR signals and send them to the closet?
