First, I would like to apologize if this is somewhat off-topic, but I feel like I have nowhere else to turn to.

    Now, for the actual problem.

If I were to describe it shortly, I would say something like:

Since a few months ago, I can no longer redeem free games with gold of the month that are from the xbox 360 marketplace, from any given web based browser, being presented with an infinite loading page.

    ___

    Some notes about tests performed:

    • My xbox account region, my website locale, my ip address, are all in the same country
    • I have a valid purchase method and I can make any purchases I want, free or at a price, either from the XB1 store or from the 360 store, through browser or console, just not the free 360 gold game
    • I have cleared the browser cache fully, and tried with Internet Explorer, Edge and Chrome, on Windows 10 Android, and even the console browser
    • If I redeem through the console (store app), it takes a few seconds (causing a lot of people to assume it doesn't work either) and then shows two confirmation screens (one English as per console setting and one my language), but eventually it will allow me to redeem the game successfully

    Support methods tried:

    • Xbox support twitter account
    • Xbox support forum
    • Xbox support chat

Many people have been posting the same error for months. These are just a few examples. Please also note the "people with the same problem" count:

But, if we try and dig a big into the error, here's some additional debug info.

I'm currently trying to redeem Castelvania 2, Lords of the Shadow.

If I go to game with gold (https://www.xbox.com/live/gold) I can find the link to the game:
    https://marketplace.xbox.com/produc...Shadow-2/66acd000-77fe-1000-9115-d8024b4e084d

When I click it, it will redirect to my locale page (browser console shows some script errors but so far all seems ok):
    https://marketplace.xbox.com/pt-PT/...Shadow-2/66acd000-77fe-1000-9115-d8024b4e084d

In an iframe, the url below is opened when I click the buy game button on the top left or by scrolling down to the item (the same url as opening through xbox console companion app on Windows 10):
    https://live.xbox.com/pt-PT/purchase/xbox/66acd000-77fe-1000-9115-d8024b4e084d

So far, so good, the confirmation button is displayed, showing "Free" on the top.

I does mention a script error which may or may not be relevant,

var orderInfo = ;//Uncaught SyntaxError: Unexpected token ';'

Clicking the confirmation button will cause a 404:

    GET https://live.xbox.com/pt-PT/Purchase/Xbox/66acd000-77fe-1000-9115-d8024b4e084d/pidl.prerequisites.js net::ERR_ABORTED 404 (Not Found)

Obviously something went wrong. Apparently there's a script, require.js, that is trying to load a document in the current directory/path and fails, possibly trying to validate me as a gold owner:

    url: "./pidl.prerequisites.js"

    Problematic url:
    https://live.xbox.com/pt-PT/Purchase/Xbox/66acd000-77fe-1000-9115-d8024b4e084d/pidl.prerequisites.js

I've also noticed that the url one folder up does point to an existing file,
    https://live.xbox.com/pt-PT/Purchase/Xbox/pidl.prerequisites.js

However, this file is not a js file, but a web page,
    view-source:https://live.xbox.com/pt-PT/Purchase/Xbox/pidl.prerequisites.js

This is quite interesting but because the file is not a real js file, even if we tweak the url through modifying the DOM, it will still fail due to the file not being a real javascript file,

    url: "../pidl.prerequisites.js"

Refused to execute script from 'https://live.xbox.com/pt-PT/Purchase/Xbox/pidl.prerequisites.js' because its MIME type ('text/html') is not executable, and strict MIME type checking is enabled.

This is as far as I got trying to somehow make it work, leveraging potential issues on my side and even on the site's side.

In my humble opinion this is too unfortunate and even though I have a workaround (redeem through console store app), I feel like this represents a bug and should be addressed by the team handling the web site. We are not always at the console, some of us travel and redeeming through the browser is often the only way.

I can understand if this is difficult to reproduce and/or fix, but at least someone should acknowledge the issue and work on a fix.

Support is typically useless and once went as far as telling me "ok we've tried everything, now we will escalate this to the dev team". Well I don't know which dev team is that since I've been reporting this about a year ago and so far, I only see a growth of people complaining among friends and group members.

Can someone please actually have this problem raised somewhere, somehow so that it can be checked? If (or while) it is not possible, at least the page should state that the feature is currently unsupported rather than infinite loading.

TL;DR: there's a bug preventing xbox 360 games with gold to be redeemed through the browser
