Can someone explain why I need the internet to install a game?

So I got an ODST code last night while I was at work. I instantly redeemed the code on my laptop and ODST was installed by the time I got home at 7:30am. However when I attempted to download the update for the MCC, it messed up. So I uninstalled the MCC,
but not ODST or the Bandanna Skull, and reinstalled the game and went to bed around 8:00am. When I got up around 1:30pm it was only 25% installed.

I don't understand why it takes so long to install a game when the data is right there on the disc. I mean what do people do when they don't have the internet? How do they install games without the internet? Clearly it isn't required for them to install
the game because people would have been returning consoles a lot more if it was.

Installation Stopped

Okay, so this started about a week or two ago. I was willy nilly happily playing COD WW2. Then all of a sudden i needed an update as usual. Of course i tried updating. kept stopping at like 15%. I then do a heap of research for troubleshooting. I restart
the game, restart the console, clean the disk. I then uninstall the game from the xbox. Now for clarification i bought this game in hardcopy from a disk. I tried reinstalling it. And every single time the installation stops. I've cleared local games from storage.
I've done just about every thing i can. Apart from resetting the xbox completely.

Now it would be amazing if someone can explain to me why it doesnt wanna install. Would also be helpful to understand why it wants to eat my internet in order to install a game. If i may add, i have limited internet each month, but it shouldnt need internet
to install. It should for updates but im not updating it.

Australia is a "Cash Cow" market according to console developers and retaillers who sell any gaming related paraphernalia are charged huge royalties for simply selling their products. These royalty fees are then passed onto the consumer via higher prices.
It has nothing to do with the relative smaller size of the Australian market, the cost of distribution or any other factor such as the relative value of the Australian dollar. We are getting shafted. Pure and simple and there's stuff all we can do about it.

Sorry to hear that you're having issues installing the game. However, the full MCC game is not completely on the disc. There are still 20 GB remaining to be installed. Perhaps the fact that you need that extra bit is slowing down the disc install.

What onyx62is said is correct. The game was far too big to fit on a disc, so there is a large "update" to install the rest of it. If I remember correctly, the disc contains the 4 campaigns and the download contains multiplayer, so you most likely could install
the disc offline and play the campaigns without any updates. I can't test that though, since mine is a digital copy.

For most other games it is actually faster to disconnect from the internet, install the game offline, and then connect again to download any updates for it. Games do seem to install much slower if it's downloading the updates at the same time, much slower
than installing offline and then downloading updates later.

nothing you can do, support are not allowed to assist, you get one appeal and that is it, there is no other way to contact enforcement, basically it is a broken system which utilises AI and biased humans.
