    Can someone explain the Microsoft/Xbox user architecture to me please?

    Hello,

    I am 20+ years in the digital industry and I spend a good chunk of my time discussing system architecture design. Even with this background I simply cannot fathom how on earth Microsoft's user architecture is designed, let alone navigate it.

    I have a Microsoft account on my email address, which seems to be a personal account. But I also have a business account. I only have one primary email that I use for everything.

    As a result, when I try to install a product like Office 365, I have to log out of my person account and login with the same email and password, but choose the Work option.

    Why? How can MS not know that these accounts are linked?

    It gets even more confusing when I attempt to connect my Xbox with my family involved.

    It's like entering the fourth dimension.

    I'm not sure the human brain was designed to work with this level of complexity.

    Apparently I have an Xbox account. I can log in with this account on the Xbox.

    I have no idea whether this is my personal or work email. Or maybe this is another account all together. Are MS and Xbox accounts linked? They seem to be vaguely linked.

    If I go online I am playing as myself with the gamer tag that I chose (more on that later).

    I also have Microsoft Family set up.

    I think that I have setup the accounts correctly. I am forced to use a mobile app to configure the family accounts and turn them into Xbox accounts. Cannot do this through the website for some reason.

    The issue I have is that the account.xbox.com website seems to make me use an app for Windows 10, which doesn't actually allow me to edit any of the things that I want to edit.

    So now I have to use:

    * The Microsoft Family website

    * Various Xbox websites

    * Some unfinished Xbox app on my Windows 10 device

    * Xbox Family on my Android device

    * and the Xbox itself.

    And I still cannot simply change what I want or get a single view of the accounts and access to multiplayer gaming.

    What I want to do is the following:

    1. Change the gamer tag of my youngest son as one seemed to be automatically generated for him and it's rubbish. I followed the instructions of how to do this from the Minecraft website, and all that did was change my main gamer tag. I tried to change it back and Microsoft attempted to charge me for it. Although I couldn't even pay to change it back as the form on https://social.xbox.com/changegamertag for payment only accepted US addresses, so it looks like I am now stuck with a gamer tag that was for one of my children. I was to rename my master account back to my gamertag, and update my child's gamer tag to a new one.

    2. I'd like the Xbox setup so that any of my kids has a profile on there and they can choose their profile and access multiplayer online gaming. I have changed all the settings that I can find, both on my main account and on the kids accounts, but whenever I try to join multiplayer gaming (in this case on Minecraft) I get the same error that "You account is not setup correctly" or something along those lines. I have set every setting I can find to enable online play for all family members and my main account, but still no access. The link to a 'help' file is where I found the information about changing a gamer tag, which did not work.

    Is there anyone I can call at Microsoft who can give me a guided tour of this mind-numbing architecture and maybe help me set this up correctly?!

    Maybe even a consultant that I can pay to sort it out?

    Cheers,

    :)

    Can someone please explain to me...

    Its much easier and cost effective for epic as gears is only on xbox. One platform to create an expensive dedi server. COD would have to do so for each console and the PC. Not cost effective for them.

    Yeah time for them to get a jump on things and become the host.

    Can someone please explain to me...

    Because Gears 3 is an xbox exclusive that has sold about 4 million copies, where as MW3 is multiplatform and at this point has about 15-17 million players across those platforms. Less people = less cost. The cost of hosting servers is not a small one, and
    the lag problems were MUCH worse in Gears 2 than they were in MW2. More people complained = change in servers.

    If Activision feels enough people will complain about the lag to warrant the cost of what would probably be one of the largest gaming server systems ever... then they would pony up the cost. However, I don't see that happening.

    Because Activision doesn't care about your lag, or anyone's for that matter. The day they give us dedicated servers is the day we have yet another monthly/yearly fee slapped on.

    Can someone please explain to me...

    Activision don't see a reason to. At the moment with CoD breaking sales records year after year they're in no rush to spend money on dedi servers, I suppose when CoD's popularity starts to wane they'll add dedicated server to entice more players.

    and I like to add were do people get the idea that dedicated servers don't have lag? I've played games with dedi servers like GoW, Homefront and Battlefield and all those games still have some lag, maybe not quite like CoD but it's still exist.
