Can not install disc after game update

Right. I'm angry so forgive me if this is a rant! Last night I logged into Forza 5 ready to race online and was prompted to install the game update. I tried but the install repeatedly failed - just saying "install stopped". It then repeatedly told me that
my disc is damaged or dirty (but it had just recognised it and played it to prompt me to update!)

I tried a hard restart. No joy. I then uninstalled the whole forza game (don't ask me why) and attempted to reinstall it. Ive tried online and offline - install stops at around 40% . I install offline then when it gets to 20% ish it says I can launch so
I do and the game starts up. I'm then prompted to install the update so I go back online and try to update but then it crashes and says "installation stopped" at 29% every time. I've cleaned the disc and like I said, it started up and played first time before
asking me to install the update. Ive also checked that my version is up to date, ive got automatic consoles on so that's not the issue.

Other game discs are playing fine. I'm fuming....I wasted my whole night last night trying to do this and have got nowhere.

Any suggestions?

3 hour installs from disc?

Should be faster if you install the disc disconnected from the internet so the update doesn't start downloading while the disc is being installed. After the disc is installed then the console can be reconnected to the internet and the update will download.

 

New XB1 owner. Looks great, but DL times, ugh...

Buy the game on disc and unplug the internet before installing the game to the HD so the system doesn't start downloading the game or update. If you do this the typical game will install in about 10 minutes. After the installation is complete then you can plug the internet back in to download/install the update.

 

When you install offline, could you try letting it go all the way to 100% before connecting to Live again? Ignore the prompt that says it's ready to play, let it finish up.

However, if you have not done so already start by trying to power cycle the console (support.xbox.com/.../power-cycle-console).

Let us know how you get on with that.

 

Sorry, yes, should have said I've ignored the prompt and tried to let it install all the way but it stops around 38 - 40%

No luck I'm afraid. Same result. Got to 42% on the install when I was offline and stopped. Prompted me to launch it so I did. Then it told me I had to update so I logged in online and tried to update. It started at 29% and then stopped. I've tried "try installing
again" over and over but it just stops straight away.

Could it be the disc?

 

Also, sometimes it gives me the "disk may be damaged or dirty" message and sometimes it doesn't.

 

It could be the disc, but I'm having a look at settings to see what other things we can change.

If it's at all possible for you to try with another disc, without incurring any expense, do that and see if it improves. Otherwise I'll see what else we can dig up.

Have you ever successfully played Forza?

 

Another question: are you trying to install to the internal hdd or an external hard drive?

yes Ive played Forza loads - been playing it since about xmas almost daily. as I said, when I logged in and put the disc in yesterday it started up and then prompted me to do the update. that's when it all started working.

tempted to buy the game as a download now but concerned ill be wasting my money if that doesn't work either!

 

The download would *probably* work but that would be an expensive solution. We can exhaust other possibilities first.

A few things to try then:

• Settings>Disc&Bluray>Clear Persistent Storage
• Go to My Games & Apps>Games>[highlight] Forza 5>[press] Menu (horizontal lines)>Manage Game, uninstall the game and ALL add-ons (they'll all be re-installable through this same menu later on)
  
• In there, also delete the game save - but ONLY from console, NOT everywhere. Next time you start the game you'll be able to retrieve the game save from the cloud, but ONLY IF you select console and NOT everywhere. The game save is on the right in a grey
  pane, press A then 'Delete from CONSOLE'.
• Now power cycle again and unplug from the wall for a good few minutes before reconnecting it all.
  
• Try the installation online and just leave it to do its own thing.
• Hope against hope that it all works now.
• If (when?) that all works, start it up to retrieve your game save and re-install any add-on packs.
  

If it does not work, you may have to try restoring to factory defaults. You'll lose game saves, but they'll all be backed up to the cloud provided you've played the games online at some point. You'll also need to set the console up again and re-install ALL
games, not just Forza. This is going to be time-consuming, but may be the only alternative remaining at this point. Hopefully you don't need this one though and it works earlier on...

i uninstalled and installed two other games..they installed just fine but cod wont install
