Can not control volume on both TV and AV Receiver at the same time

My Xbox was originally setup to operate just the TV. The volume up/down/mute commands worked. Then I added (from device settings) my AV receiver, the volume up/down/mute commands worked on it however the commands stopped working on my TV.

I reran setup for both TV and AV Receiver. During the setup the test commands worked on both devices. But my issue was not resolved.

I then removed (from device settings) the AV receiver and the TV volume commands started working.

Thus it appears my Xbox is unable to control the volume on both devices at the same time. I am able to repeat the steps above and get the same result.

Is it possible to control the tv volume seperate from the av volume?

My wife will not want to turn on the av system if she just wants to watch tv. It seems as if that once av is established, you can only control the av volume and not switch between av volume control and tv volume control. Am I correct in this assumption
or am I missing something?

Hi yoyoyojo99,

Sorry you're having issues with your volume control. When you enable the A/V receiver controls the Xbox is going to default power to that as it thinks you're only using that for your sounds. As such it's not going to send vol up and down to both your
TV and Receiver.

I wanted to know the same thing about my different receiver. Asked similar question on here at lunchtime. From answers I got and a gamespot or IGN (cant remember which) Youtube video i watched the answer i got was yes. The IR blaster will turn on both the
tv and the av receiver as well as control the receiver volume.

That's because you have both a HDMI cable and the AV cable plugged in at the same time. One is digital and the other one is analogue, so it is "confusing" the TV.

You can either use only the AV cable, only the HDMI cable or buy the official HDMI adaptor, that way, you will be able to use both the HDMI cable and the AV adaptor for sound on a receiver or TV.
