Cloud - he means the fibre cable. They are manufactured from glass. Whether they are more durable than standard copper cabling is another debate. Although, less likely to see fibre cables being stolen whereas copper still has a re-sale value.

As for copper stealing, I didn't know that still happens but then again the old saying goes "if its not bolted down, its a thieves best friend" lol. Last I heard this happening was a few years back.

I work as an analyst within the telecoms industry and sorry to say that copper line stealing does happen quite a bit.

 

Metal theft is so prevalent that a new Law has just been enacted to combat it, Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013, pretty much makes it impossible to deal in cash for metal.

 

Well that does suck!! I mean seriously, if I found that someone stripped any of my metal or corrupted my net by nicking it further down the line, I would release the hounds with a smile on my face lol.

Genchy, does that mean that they cant buy it from unauthorized distributors? That's a pretty smart way to do it! Obvious but smart lol.

 

Anyone selling or buying has to be licensed and can't deal in cash amongst other things, there's requirements for collectors to keep records of id from sellers etc, example being if you wanted to sell your cooker to me for scrap you would have to provide
me with photo id for my records and I would need to licensed, then when I go to sell the cooker to a licensed scrap dealer they can't pay me in cash and have to keep a record of my details. There's more to it but that's the gist. It's so scrotes can't
nick stuff and sell it to dodgy dealers for cash and leave no trace. It's harder to be dodgy (but not impossible)

People in my area still scrap stuff in. Also local scrap yard will pay cash

 

well having worked in Licensing for the past 18 years, it's my understanding that it shouldn't be happening. Different Local Authorities will vary in implementation and enforcement .
