Can I use an external harddrive to run my xbox?

So In my 500gb Xbox One X, I'm pretty certain the harddrive inside it is corrupted, Ive had many problems with it. I am out of warranty with it and I was wondering if there was a way to like.. run my xbox from that harddrive instead of the internal one.

I believe your only options are to either get in touch with the Device Service & Replacement department and see how much they will charge for repair, to buy a new
Xbox One or follow the advice given in the link posted by k1Helix z

Edit - was not aware of k1Helix z link to upgrade hard drive (as page not updated whilst drafting message) and that this option was available. Advice amended to include reference to k1Helix z

No, it's not possible. The only thing you can do with external drives, is install games, apps and add-ons.

Something's wrong with your initial statement "500gb Xbox One X" The Xbox One X has a 1tb harddrive.

In answer to your question is no you can't run it from an external drive you will need to get your xbox repaired.
