Can I use a 25 dollar xbox gift card to purchase a Gold Subscription? (360)

Unfortunately currency cannot be used to purchase a gold membership. This is because a membership purchased on the console automatically sets up to auto renew unless you turn it off.

You can, however, use a membership card purchased at a gaming store or a credit card/paypal that is attached to your account to add membership time.

Gift cards for dollar amounts cannot be used to purchase subscriptions. The subscription gift card for a specific period of time must be used.

Did you buy a 10 dollar gift card or did you buy a one month xbox live gold subscription card?

These are 2 different cards

The gift card puts 10 dollars onto your Microsoft account balance. If this was the case you can check you balance by going into settings and under the account tab go to payment options and will show you the balance there. You would then have to go to microsoftstore.com
and purchase a one month xbox live subscription card during checkout it will allow you to use the Microsoft account balance it will then give you a new 25 digit code to enter in for one month of live.

The live subscription card would give you one month of live. If this was the case you can check your subscription status again in settings under the account tab and subscriptions if it shows an active subscription that you just put in then you can try powercycling
the console by holding down the power button on front of console for about 10 seconds for it to shut off then unplug it for about a minute. Once you plug it back in and sign back in you should be able to use the gold subscription

You cannot use your account balance to purchase an Xbox Live Gold subscription. You can use Xbox Live Gold membership cards. They come in one month, 3 month, and year memberships. It's the same kinda thing, a prepaid code that gets redeemed to your account
and adds the number of months you have purchased. The gift cards with the dollar amounts that get added to your account cannot be used to buy a membership

Xbox live gold. The gift cards will either be for 3 or 12 months of service. The other gift card will provide the

Microsoft account wallet with Currency. you can then use this currency to purchase Games or movies/TV shows. The Currency Gift cards are the go-to cards for when you do not want to add a credit or debit card to your account.

The subscription cards will show you how many months you are purchasing on the front of the card. The currency cards will show a dollar amount on the front of the card.
