Can i transfer xbox one games to external HD?

My friend is about to buy an xbox one, and he is getting a copy of Forza for download.

Is it possible for me to copy my downloaded file of forza from my xbox one onto an external HD that he can then install from? Or will he have to download it as well?

I dont have an eternal on me to test it out which is why i am asking. He will bring one over if we can do this.

Xbox One external hard drive question.

Hello everyone

I am really glad that you won't have to re-install games if your Xbox One goes bad

I am going to have to transfer all of my installed game stuff to my External HDD when I eventually get it

Can I transfer the stuff from the Xbox One HDD to the External HDD without having to delete the game and re-install it to the External HDD?

You can take the HDD to your friends and play the game but you cannot install it on the console

If you try to play it off your hdd on his account It will ask for him to purchase so if he puts the download code in it should alow you to copy it across to the internal HDD and save him downloading the large file, can't confirm this will work but in theory
it sounds possible, let me know if it works

Thank you for coming to the forums. You can have up to 3 external drives on the Xbox at one time so essentially you should be able to transfer or copy your games from on external drive to the other and vice versa. Just follow the article provided by

Kiesey to get to the Storage settings and follow the steps on how to transfer games from drive to drive.

Open the Settings app on Xbox One.
Navigate to the System tab.
Select Storage.
Scroll over to the right to select the internal drive.
Select Transfer.
Select items you plan to transfer. If moving all items, choose Select all.
Choose Copy selected to copy the items between drives. To completely move the items, select
Move selected.
Choose the drive you plan to move content to.
Press Copy or Move to initiate the transfer.

If for whatever reason it does not let you transfer from external HD to external HD, you may need to copy the games first to your internal HD and then copy the same games to your new external HD. This step may take longer but is still an option in case you
cannot copy from one external HD to the other.

To use an external drive for games on the One the entire drive has to be formatted by the One and used exclusively for storing your games.

For What is worth:

The way I am doing now, is that I keep:

1- internal HD for console fonctions only ( temporary storage )

2- external HD for games and ad-ons only ( permanent storage )

3- USB key for save-games

I free the infernal HD by transfering anything that I whant to keep on the external HD, so each 3 different storage helps the console
working and playing easier. Also when needed, int-HD and USB key can be removed to permit any repare and actions
that could result data loss on the console.
