Can I retain gold games after ending my gold membership and have a family member go gold?

My son is a family member and is using the same xbox one ( as we only have one console ) - so does that mean if I cancel my gold subscription and start his … we can still access the free games with gold that I had access to?

Unfortunately if you want to play your games you've received through Games with Gold, you will need to continue your Gold Subscription as that is the only way to access them without actually buying them. Once your Gold subscription has halted you won't
be able to play them until you restart your subscription

You could always just change your gamertag to something your son would want and just gift him the account. You could then start a free account on the same console for yourself and keep access to the games

This might circumvent parental controls the parent has set up for the kid and make the kid a full grown adult that can't be controlled or restricted on the Xbox anymore.

Also, the kid will then have control over the Microsoft account, meaning the kid can access the parent emails, OneDrive storage and anything else associated with the account.

So do NOT do that.
