Can I remove an xbox account from my microsoft account if it has 2 gamertags on it?

I have 2 accounts. My original xbox account had my gamertag changed from the default one to the one it has now (the gamertag I would like to have) and I have my new account which I had as a Microsoft account before they were merged. My Microsoft account is what I use everything for, but I want to have my Xbox gamertag on that account. That account was set up as an Xbox account, and when I tried to change the gamertag for it, the limit for characters was 12. So in short I have had the gamertag in the past, and still do. But it needs to be put onto a different account. And to be clear, the gamertag is the only thing I care about from my original account. If I can get my Microsoft account to have my gamertag I would likely delete my old account entirely.

you can not remove a gamertag and delete it on ist own by any simple means.

you can

a) remove your account from your xbox hdd BUT then it sill exists as online Profile.

or

b) sign in on https://account.live.com -> choose security and Password -> verify your Action -> and select Close account BUT this will remove all Services and purchases connected with the email address
alltogether after a Trial period of 60days.

or

c) shift your gamertag to a different Microsoft account by using xbox 360 Options "Change Microsoft account" - this is possible by following scenario: 1. your gamertag has to be stored to your hdd for more than 30days without any Information Change 2. the
new Microsoft account may NOT have a gamertag connected and MUST exist for at least 30days. now you can use method b) to Close the Microsoft account you used to connect to the gamertag.

I don't want to create a new Microsoft Account. I already have the desired Microsoft Accounts. I just want to get rid of the Microsoft generated Xbox Profile/Gamertag for Account #2, so I can move my Xbox Profile/Gamertag from Account #1.

Before you can switch your gamertag in this case, you must first remove the existing gamertag from the Microsoft account you want to use. Here's how:

1.Consider the following scenario:

◦Gamertag A is linked to Microsoft account 1. ◦Gamertag B is linked to Microsoft account 2.

In this scenario, your gamertag is Gamertag B, and you want to move it to Microsoft account 1.

2.At accounts.live.com, create a new Microsoft account. You'll only need this account as a temporary means of moving your gamertags.

Example: ◦Gamertag A is linked to Microsoft account 1.

◦Gamertag B is linked to Microsoft account 2.

◦Microsoft account 3 is free.

3.Switch the gamertag that's linked to the Microsoft account you want to use to the Microsoft account that you created in Step 3. ◦Microsoft account 1 is now free.

◦Gamertag B remains linked to Microsoft account 2.

◦Gamertag A is now linked to Microsoft account 3.

4.Switch your gamertag to the Microsoft account that you want to use.

Example: ◦Gamertag B is now linked to Microsoft account 1.

◦Microsoft account 2 is now free.

◦Gamertag A remains linked to Microsoft account 3.

5.To complete the switch of gamertags between the two original Microsoft accounts, you must wait 30 days. After 30 days, switch Gamertag A from Microsoft account 3 to Microsoft account 2. ◦Gamertag B remains linked to Microsoft account 1.

◦Gamertag A is now linked to Microsoft account 2.

◦Microsoft account 3 is now free.

6.Cancel the Microsoft account that you created in step 2.

Ahh I think I see what's going on here SassierRope643! You do in fact need to switch your account to a 3rd email as has been suggested. Before you can switch your gamertag in this case, you must first remove the existing gamertag from that Microsoft account:



Create a new Microsoft account. You will only need this new account as a temporary means of moving your gamertags. After the gamertags have been switched, you will no longer need this Microsoft account.



Example:

Gamertag A is linked to Microsoft account 1.

Gamertag B is linked to Microsoft account 2.

To swap gamertags A and B between Microsoft accounts 1 and 2, first create a third temporary account: Microsoft account 3

Switch the gamertag that is linked to the Microsoft account you want to use to the new temporary account you just created.



Example:

Gamertag A remains linked to Microsoft account 1.

Switch gamertag B to Microsoft account 3.

Microsoft account 2 is now free.

Now switch your gamertag to the Microsoft account you want to use.



Example:

Switch gamertag A to Microsoft account 2.

Gamertag B remains linked to Microsoft account 3.

Microsoft account 1 is now free.

To complete the swap of gamertags between the two original Microsoft accounts, you must wait 30 days. (A gamertag can be switched only once every 30 days.)



Example:

Gamertag A remains linked to Microsoft account 2.

After 30 days, switch gamertag B to Microsoft account 1.

Microsoft account 3 is now free and no longer needed.
