Can I play without Internet?

Hello, I just bought another Xbox one to use at work. I work in the middle of nowhere so I don't have an Internet connection. I'm sending this question by using my iPad that is connected by personal hotspot to my iPhone. My work keeps me in the boonies for
weeks at a time. My questions are, is it possible to connect the Xbox to personal hotspot to do the initial setup and update? Can I skip the update and play without ever connecting to Internet? If I have to bring it home when my shift ends in a week or so
to connect and update (no big deal), will I be able to bring it back with me and play without an Internet connection?

Did you redeem XBOX LIVE code when you bought XBOX1? Sometimes they have a redeem code in there for like a month or 3 months.

Hi Wurmtongue! I'd be happy to help you. First, you DO have to do the initial update during first time setup, it's a required update and there's just no way around it. That said, however, if you do the first time setup on your home network, you should be
able to play offline the rest of the time. The network connection is only required for the first time setup.

As for the hotspot idea, I can't give a definitive answer on that, as I've not tried it myself. I believe a broadband connection is required, and I'm not certain if an iPhone hotspot can provide the connection necessary for the setup. (It's a huge update,
and while Wi-Fi may do the trick, I can't swear to 3G/4G being able to handle it.
