  1. Can I play games off of external storage on my laptop?

I have run out of space on my 512GB laptop and need some more space to re-download all the games I would like to play such as Fortnite, EA FC 24, F1 23 and Microsoft Flight Simulator. I have a Thunderbolt 3 port on my laptop and I'm exploring using external storage to put the games on and play off. Does anyone know if this will be possible to play games straight off the external storage (SSD) and that it won't be laggy?

Currently, I have explored options on Amazon such as the following (looking at getting 2TB):

Can anyone also please advise me if they are good in terms of allowing the game to run smoothly?

    Thanks!

    :)
