Can I play call of duty on Xbox series s

He might be the only person reporting this here, but he's so far from alone. I play backwards compatible Call of Duty games with dozens of people, and they all notice and agree that there is significant input lag when playing any of these games.

I can confirm that the issue is present on Call of Duty 4, Call of Duty World at War, Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, Call of Duty Black Ops, Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3, and Call of Duty Black Ops 2. I can confirm that this issue is present on Xbox One and Xbox Series S. These people collectively can confirm the issue is present across Xbox One, Xbox One S, Xbox Series S, and Xbox Series X. Several of them have purchased an Xbox 360 instead to avoid it.

I hope this issue can be passed along and resolved at some point. I can deal with it, but I certainly notice it and find it rather annoying.

You would unfortunately need to purchase the digital version for your son to be able to play it on an Xbox Series S, as the console doesn’t have a disk drive and there’s currently no possible workaround to this. Any games that you own on a disk can’t be played without it as the license needs to be verified.

You have a few options to purchase the digital version, it’s just not as easy to wrap up as a present as there’s no physical item (unless you manage to get it on an actual card and not a digital code).

You can purchase the digital download code (or maybe a card) from an online retailer. I’d recommend against third party sites like CDKeys and G2A as although they’re generally cheaper (slightly), it’s always best to go with a more trusted and reputable site like Amazon (I’m not sure your country/region, but this is just for reference):

Alternatively, you can purchase an Xbox gift card (the card or digital code) to the value of the game. Your son can then purchase the game with that.

You don't have to apologize and thank you so much for the detailed information.

I'm sorry but the license of the physical disc games is on the disc itself and there is no digital code that can be found from there which means that if he now have an Xbox Series S, getting the digital version of the game will be the only option. Sorry for that.

From what I can tell, to access the Series X version of the game, you need the Cross-Gen bundle...once you buy that, you should then be able to download and install the Series X version. Without the cross-gen bundle it will, presumably, just install the XB1 version
