Can I merge Microsoft accounts or just move over the email address?

Its high time Microsoft Start supporting Merging or Moving accounts.
Especially as Microsoft is trying so hard to get rid of old email addresses nowadays.

If not removed you have to get Microsoft 365 Basic to secure & stop the massive spam that now will flood your old accounts.

I'd love to make the old mail a Alias but MS realy don't like old age from their own previous domain accounts.

Unfortunately, we cannot merge Microsoft accounts. In regard to moving your email address, it's only applicable to 3rd party email addresses like Yahoo mail, Google mail etc., but for Microsoft email addresses like Hotmail, Outlook, etc., it will always stay on its original account. Please note that removing a Microsoft email address from the account itself is like deleting it permanently and it can no longer be recreated.

Aren't you able to get into your hotmail account via https://outlook.live.com to access your emails?

You could try adding a new email address to your account by creating a new one within your Hotmail account via https://account.microsoft.com/ > Your info > Edit account info > Create new email address or add any 3rd party email address that's not currently linked to Microsoft account.

Hey I was reading this and wondering, is it like if your not fast enough after removing the email that it gets permamnently deleted? because i did the same thing and was wondering if i just straight lucked out.

The email I wanted to attach was actually a Gmail account, so maybe I'll be able to attach it after the 30 days when the account closes.

But also THANK YOU. I clicked the outlook link and it took me right to my hotmail account that I haven't used in forever. I honestly thought it was a defunct service and that's why I couldn't get into it. I added my regular email as a forwarding email and that's now a huge load off my mind. Thanks so much.

The account closure will take 60 days. Certainly, after it's closed completely, you will be able to add your Gmail address to your preferred account.

As a tip, you could reactivate your Microsoft account that has your Gmail in it. Once you're able to access it back, simply follow the same steps above on how to change your primary email address. You could add a dummy email address to it and set it as primary alias so you can remove your Gmail address and add it right away to your preferred account.
