Can I connect Xbox one direct to soundbar via optical cable?

    Dear Community

I've recently purchased a soundbar and to make my Xbox experience better, which it has. Only issue is that the volume has to be controlled via it's own separate remote and I'd really like to be able to use the official xbox remote I have.

I was thinking that I could possibly connect the soundbar directly to the xbox via an optical cable as both seem to have these ports, in the hope that it would somehow then control the sound, but I can't seem to make this work. My TV does not have an optical
connection, it has some coaxial out port. My Soundbar has no HDMI option.

I currently have the soundbar (BUSH TT311) connected to the TV (Toshiba 32VB500B) via twin RCA cables. The TV connects to the Xbox via HDML.

Any idea either on how to link the Xbox to the soundbar directly with an optical cable (what settings I'd have to select on the xbox) or to just get the xbox controller to be able to control the volume of the soundbar.

Thanks for your time in advance.

    :)

Have you tried using an optical cable from your TV back to the Soundbar? Connect your Xbox One via HDMI to your HDTV then use an optical cable from your HDTV to your Soundbar. Does that work?

360 hdmi to tv optical to soundbar producing no sound. Xbox one also hooked via hdmi works fine.

trying to connect 360 to tv via hdmi, and tv to soundbar via optical cable produces no sound from soundbar.

    Here is my current set:

    1. cable box hdmi out to xbox one hdmi in

xbox hdmi out to tv in - input 1

    2. Xbox 360 hdmi out to tv hdmi in - input 2

    3. TV optical out to soundbar optical in

xbox one plays fine, and I seem to get surround sound from video games and cable.

I am currently getting no sound from 360 to soundbar. 360 will only play sound through tv even though optical cable is connected from tv to soundbar. I have a feeling it has to do with xbox one being connected to another input. Even though I am, of course,
using input 2 for 360 when playing 360 games, I wonder if Xbox one is interfering with the signal? And, telling the soundbar through the tv, 'I am THE ONE, and u will only hear my voice.'

Anyways, curious if anyone has suggestions on what may be wrong. Here, I'm basically trying to use my soundbar for all things tv related. And, I would've thought connecting the One and 360 via hdmi on separate inputs would allow each hdmi signal to go through
and the tv would send whichever signal (input being either One OR 360) was currently running through optical cable to soundbar.

As an fyi, I was originally connecting One hdmi to soundbar to tv. And, 360 was using optical directly to soundbar. Overall, I thought sending optical from tv to soundbar would be the most efficient connection path until I ran into this problem.

    any ideas/questions?

If you have a Kinect attached to your Xbox One (Xbox One uses the Kinect as an IR blaster), just go to the Xbox One Settings, select "Display & Sound," then select "Set up TV & AV Control" and choose "Audio Receiver." Your soundbar model may not be listed,
so choose "other" (or whatever the option is for brands not listed - I can't remember the wording), type the brand name of your soundbar into the field, then follow the on-screen directions.

If you do not have or use a Kinect, you might try the suggestions at the Xbox Support article located

I've connected my soundbar via optical cable as you are wanting to do (I do have a Kinect), and Xbox One is able to control the volume and power to the soundbar.

Thanks all. I've managed to get my soundbar now working via optical cable, however, in set up there is no option for Bush and in 'other' I go through the set-up wizard and no joy.

I've contacted Bush directly and they say they have no remote code to give (which set up asks for at a certain stage after it doesn't manage to link up on it's on). They said that it's something I need to speak to Microsoft about. Asking if they have plans
to list Bush devices in the option/pairing section.

Would it be worth getting a separate IR blaster? Perhaps it would be able to do something the Kinect can't?

Sorry to hear that you haven't been able to set up control for your soundbar. I don't think an IR extension cable or a separate IR blaster would help
unless the Kinect IR signals cannot reach the soundbar for some reason, i.e., the soundbar is in a media cabinet or somehow blocked from view. If that isn't the issue, then it really comes down to the Xbox One having the proper control codes
so that it can communicate with the soundbar.
