Can I charge my controller without the play & charge kit?

Hi,

I was wondering if you can charge you XB1 Wireless Controller without the Play & Charge kit

:)

 

Anybody else pre order on gamestop.com?

Sadly Fedex is much faster than UPS. Just got my play and charge kit. Can't charge it though without controller.

Hello I have just taken the battery out of my controller and plugged it in to my console with only the usb cable and can confirm that without a play and charge battery in the controller that the light on the usb does not like up. It looks like it is only
used to confirm if the charge status on the play an charge battery.

The battery pack that comes with the Play and Charge Kit can be recharged using virtually any Micro-USB, like the one that came with the Play and Charge Kit itself.

If you take away the rechargeable battery, the controller will be powered simply using the USB connection to your Xbox. It becomes a wired controller but it will stay powered as long as you have it plugged into your Xbox. Once you unplug it, the controller
will power off.

There is nothing to charge if you remove the rechargeable battery pack. The battery pack is what is being re-charged when plugged in and not the controller itself.

There is no battery in the controller itself, you have to insert one, (either the play and charge kit's rechargeable battery, or 2 AA batteries) you can use the controller without any sort of battery in it, but you will need to have a cable plugged into
the controller and the Xbox you are using the controller on, this will 'convert' the controller into a wired controller.

If you are meaning if you can charge the controller without a cable of some sort, there are third party charging stations available. Should you use a charging station, you will not be able to use your controller while it is in the charging station.

 

You could do like me. I bought an Insignia battery charger from Best Buy for 19.99.it came with 2 batteries. Charge both and have 1 ready at all times. Battery in controller dies pop out dead one, put in new one, and put dead one in charger. Also it
attaches to the USB port on the front and gives you another USB port.

You could go down the route of purchasing some rechargeable AA Batteries, along with a device to charge them.

Recently I purchased a CVIDA docking station for Xbox one. It is USB powered, can be used with the Xbox One USB port, comes with two batteries and you can charge either on their own or whilst they are in the controller. It even had LED Lighting indicators
for the charging the turn from red to amber and then to green.
