With the new gamertag system, you can have two gamertags at once. The gamertag that is listed beside the "Xbox One & Xbox Apps" will only go up to 12 characters. The second option "Xbox games that don't support the new gamertag system* and all Xbox
360 experiences" allows you to run a second gamertag that is 15 characters long. All you'd need to do is when changing your gamertag, click the "Customize" prompt (Example

here).

Lastly, the second option that is 15 characters long will appear in game and people can still look up either of your gamertags to find you. The only difference is when people view your profile on Xbox or on certain app, your profile will show both gamertags

Yes, I did try to change it back, but I already used my free Gamertag change. Anyways, it said that the characters has to be less than 12. I think they changed their username letter count, so I dont know if it says username taken or not.

If yes, could you try change to one with 12 characters or less

I was wondering if theres any chance I can change my gamertag back to its orginal because I accidentally changed it now I cant change it back without paying and my gamertag before was longer than 12 characters and I cant change it to its orginal
even if I did pay

Only the first change is free, the rest you must pay.. You also cannot have a GT of more than 12 characters, since it was possible in the old GT system, now not.
