Can i change my (new) gamertag to the one i used years ago with my Xbox (first one)

Had the user Jasonmadcow with my first Xbox (the original one) but lost the account many years ago and the email associated to it (i think it was a airtel email account).

Could i use that Gamertag, right now it says its not available but because i actually have it :-(

I use Jasonmadcow in all my games/other services and it's a shame i can't use the same account

Switch Gamertags associated Microsoft Account

Hi there,

I want to switch my old Gamertag to my newer active Microsoft account.

Little Back Story:

When I first created my Gamertag (lets call it Gamertag A) like 10 Years ago i used my first Microsoft account (I will from now on refer to it as Email A). But after starting to work i needed a more serious Email, including my real name etc. (Lets call it Email
B), so I created one.

After installing Windows 8, years later, I of course used my serious and now active Account Email B. Not realizing that signing into a Windows Machine creates a new Xbox Gamertag (Gamertag B) as well. So I now have 2 Gamertags. One active, with all my purchases linked
to my dead Email A. And one Useless Gamertag with no purpose whatsoever linked to my active Email B.

My Question being: How the Heck do I get my Gamertag A linked to my Email B?

p.s.: I do have access to a Win 10 Machine and a Xbox One if that is necessary.

my account log in

on my xbox i use one email address that i used to use but it was dissabled i now have a new address but i can not change my email address to my new one beause i can not remember the pass word i used or recovery questions because it was about 3 years ago
i set up my xbox account is there any way to transfer my email address over without making a new xbox account

Since the gamertag is still on the servers, it would not be possible to use it unless you remember the account information and can change that one to something else. Or, if you don't sign into the account for 5 years it will be freed up for use again.

I'm sure that more than 5 years have passed. Is there anyway to check that it hasn't been freed due to an error?

I'm trying to change my classic gamertag which is the one you see in games. My classic gamertag got changed and my Xbox One and Xbox App gamertag stayed the same (the Xbox One gamertag is the ones they added with the new gamertag system).

My Xbox One gamertag is different to my in-game gamertag and I want my classic gamertag to be changed. You can only change your classic gamertag on the Xbox One console, I have tried using the other ways and you can only change your Xbox Gamertag, not your
classic gamertag.

The reason I want to change my classic gamertag is that the classic gamertag can be fifteen characters and the Xbox One gamertag can only be 12 characters. If I use the other ways to change my gamertag it limits me to 12 characters and sets both my gamertags
to that.

It was my first gamertag that I had on Xbox a couple of years ago I changed it I never stopped using the account so it wouldn’t be associated with an old account

Good luck with getting them to fix it, from what I am told by them there is no fix for it, Had the same issues a year ago with an older gamertag I used to use, no matter how many times I tried I could not change my email.

I just cancelled it and kindly asked them to move my prepaid supscription over to a new account.

My other gamertag was several years old so my guess is only the newer gamertags have this email change feature as older created ones were made before the WLID changing option - just a therory...
