i want to buy xbox live gold and i have some gift cards, somebody knows if i can buy gold with that cards or only with credit card.

p.d.: i dont want to use one to prove cause i want to give someone to my friends

Forgive my ignorance, but my wife just bought $60 gift cards that certainly appear to be for a 12 month XBOX Live Gold Subscription.

Our intent was to buy gift cards for my nephews that they can spend whatever they want.

Do the gift cards have to be spent on the Gold subscription, or can they be spent elsewhere?

this FAQ page no. Live can only be paid for with credit/debit card or Paypal.

That being said, paying for Live with credit on an account is being tested so some users do have the option to do so. Nothing has been said if it will be rolling out to all users or not.

 

You may also want to check at microsoftstore.com In some areas you can buy a digital code with your Microsoft account balance there.

 

Would it be possible for you to use said gift cards to purchase prepaid Xbox Live Gold cards?
