Can I be banned for asking someone what state they live in?

i've been in the party with this guy several times but the last time was the first time he had a mic so i was able to talk to him without using messages. i know next to nothing about this guy so like i do with literally every other person i come into contact
with, i try to get to know him. one of the first and only things i asked was what state he lives in and i told him what state i live in. apparently the guy doesn't like for people to ask him questions so he muted me and i could still hear him talking in the
party and he said he thinks it's "suspicious" to be asked questions, even though i'm literally just getting to know the dude and i didn't ask him anything different than i'd ask anyone else

now, i'm kinda paranoid that he may have reported me for trying to get personal info out of him. asking what state a fellow xbox player lives in is hardly personal. it's not like i was asking for his full name or his address or something, but still, it has
me worried and i can't stop thinking about a possible permaban from something like that and losing all the money i've spent on my account and all the time ive put into online ranks

can someone please tell me if asking what state someone lives in is against the rules? and no, i didn't keep pressing him for it, i asked once and he said "china" and it was pretty clear that wasnt true, so i thought he was messing with me when he wouldnt
tell me the first time. i just asked again, like "for real though, what state are you from? I'm from ************" and that's when he muted me. is something like this serious?

Can I get someone banned?

I know Microsoft does go through all of the complaints and I do know of a few users that have gotten banned, but I would imagine that they have so many to go through that it will probably take a little bit of time to get to it.

They see a lot of people getting mad, and a lot of people reporting others, but getting under your skin and doing something worthy of getting banned is quite different.

Did the guy use any racial slurs or say anything about illegal activities and the like? If he did you can probably get him temporarily banned, 48 hours most likely.

it would take a full on racial insult or threats of death for someone to get permanently banned and most of the time things never get that bad.

Only an enforcement team member can respond on if this is a CoC violation or not, and they don't use the forums.

There is nothing in the
Code of Conduct that says users can not ask personal questions of each other. It does says users are not allowed to share other user's personal information, which based on what you've said, you did not do.

With all the scams out there these days, many users are more protective of their personal information. Be care what you ask people.
