Can hear people but they can't hear me

    Can hear people but they can't hear me


    When my girlfriend is in any party or game chat she can hear others talking but no one can hear her. This started happening about 2 weeks ago before that everything was fine. When I sign on to her account from my Xbox one I can talk and hear everyone fine.
    Strangely sometimes for a few seconds I can hear her or hear a strange humming sound but it quickly cuts back out and nothing. A list of things we have tried to resolve the issue:

    Replaced the headset.

    Replaced the remote.

    Updated the remote.

    Checked all settings and connections.

    Turned off the Xbox unplugged everything and left it off for an hour.

    The mute button is not on.

    Talked to customer support numerous times.

    We are completely clueless to what else we can do after the weeks of trying and getting nowhere its so frustrating support gets us nowhere so were trying to find out if anyone else has the same issue and hopefully a solution.

    Good luck !

    I'm returning my astro a40s because they simply won't work with the controller adapter. Nobody can hear me. I've spent days trying new wires. I do advise to go to gamestop and try a different adapter, although it didn't work for me. They have a ton of software
    issues with chat, and from what I can tell they admit they know it's random, and a problem with software, the controller, the adapter, or the compatibility of all of them.

    If it worked before it's almost certainly software. I know exactly how you feel. Sadly bxox seems to just not say much and when they fix it randomly in an update all will be well.....hopefully it isn't too long cause this is damn insane.

    I am having the same trouble with the standard Xbox one chat head set (Firmware Version: 4.9.0.0), i've tried logging out turning the counsel off , unplugging, turning on using the controller, Updated controller with headset attached, swapped out batteries,
    nothing is working.

    As a side note: i have the purple circle by my avatar indicating my headset is attached , even after i unplug it from the controller..

    Tried that. All that shows up is kinect. Doesn't recognize the headset at all.

    Home button then go to far right and then go down to audio settings

    We understand that you are trying to use your single jack headset for PC gaming and is unable to hear the voices of your friends. Let us check on this together so you will get back to gaming.

    Based on your description, you can hear the music and sound but not the voices. There could be an issue with compatibility, third party apps that has settings for audio or system/apps/drivers needs to be updated or could be anything related to the headset that is disabling specific sound to be outputted. To have a better understanding, we would like to further isolate your concern.

    1. May we ask what is the make and model of your headset?
    2. When was the last time you can hear a voice from these apps or services - Discord or Skype or games? .
    3. Are we playing Xbox games or different storefront games?
    4. Is the driver for the audio up to date? We will provide steps on how to update the system and apps below, please check.
    5. Test if these works. May we know if the issue persists when:
      • Connecting the controller and headset, go to audio settings and output the audio through PC speakers.
      • Connecting the headset to PC and output audio to headset.
      • Connecting the headset to PC and output the audio to PC speakers.
      • Connect different headset to PC.
      • Connect different headset to PC and output the audio to PC speakers.

    So far, from the details you provided, you can try the following steps and let us know the result. You can just skip those you have done already.

    • Restart device - As basic as this is, a simple restart can set many things right.
    • Update Windows system -
      • Press the Start button on the taskbar, type settings, and then select Settings.
      • On Windows 10, select Update & Security. On Windows 11, select Windows Update.
      • On the Windows Update page, select Check for updates to see if any updates are available for your device.
      • Once the updates have downloaded, select Install now to start the installation.
      • Following installation, we recommend that you restart your device so that the latest updates can take effect.
    • For the best game performance, make sure your system’s video card drivers (or display adapter drivers) are up to date.     Do a network test and see what your NAT is. When this happens to my son its because his NAT is on moderate.

    Sometimes a hard reset gets his NAT back to "open" and it works.
