Can hear friends but can't chat?

Hi. I need help with chat please. My son is unable to chat to his friends but can hear them clearly. The microphone is in good working order and alternates have been tested which work fine on other machines/accounts but not on this one in any game? Chat
worked fine on this machine from the end of October when it was purchased until the beginning of January, with the exception of a short period a couple of weeks before it stopped altogether. All settings have been checked and appear fine. I have 2 other Xbox
one machines in the house (3 kids!) all on the same network and both of which can access and engage in chat conversations with no problems. Could anyone advise what the issues may be as my son would like to be able to chat with his friends again? Thank you.

Can hear friends, but friends can't hear me

When I go into a party I can hear my friends, but they can't hear me. I am not muted and when I checked my NAT type it says it's open. I tested the mic on my computer(both skype and the xbox app), and my phone and it works fine on
there. I also tried all my controllers and none of them are working. I had this problem with two mics the turtle beach xo ones and the Astros A10(which I just got). Any ideas why this is happening and how to fix this problem? Thanks

Have you checked the mic's compatibility with Xbox? Perhaps the version or company doesn't support that specific microphone...

The first thing to check would be to see if he has a communication ban. He will need to log in to this site

I have logged in and it shows that the account has no issues.

do all the Xboxes have open NAT ?

I was thinking the same thing, Bimnog.

Perhaps doing the following may fix the issue, but this ones odd indeed.

Go to settings > network > advanced settings > alternate MAC settings > clear and this will reboot your xbox

Let us know if the issue still persists

I have just tried your suggestion but unfortunately no luck?

So I logged this account in to one of the other machines also using their headset and chat worked fine so I thought I should return to the basics and retest this headset..... The headset is now completely dead (was still receiving input last night) and
no longer receiving any input or output so it seems that there may have been an intermittent or finally fatal problem with the headset....but.... I'm still a bit confused as this doesn't explain why the other working headsets didn't work on this machine either??

Anyway, gonna try a completely new headset and keep everything crossed.....

I'm having the same problem but it's also applying to party chat, I can't hear my friends nor can they hear me.

Hey there!

Perhaps check out the volume settings?

Press Xbox button > Speaker on bottom right, and then play with the volume settings,

I believe its the same when you go to the party, audio options.

Let me know if this helps?
Also if your headphones have a volume feature, sure to see if that's all the way up,

also if you have the "In game - party" feature on the headset, sure to hit the in between so you can hear both. (My razor has that feature and it's easy to forget lol)

It might be the headset chat mixer, the issue.

Hit the xbox button on the controller > drag right to settings > click on audio > it will open three options for you to adjust the volume.

The first leave at max.

The second is "headset chat mixer" leave in the middle to hear both console and chat sounds or all the way to the left on the control symbol to hear only console sounds (music, games, etc.).

And the third, at your discretion, is the microphone volume.

Thanks for the insight. I've tried them all and none have helped. It's just the weirdest thing. I can hear them completely fine in game chat, but not for party chat :-(
