Can EA ban a XBOX based on HWID?

Hey everyone.

couldn't find any issue relating to my current scenario, so im posting it as a new topic.

I just bought a used XBOX recently and got myself a Game Pass ultimate. I downloaded some EA games (PGA, F1) to play. Everything worked well for one day and the next day I get an email saying my EA account is banned for violating ToS or sale agreement. but there is so concrete clause or a specific thing I did to justify this ban

Things I tried:

- Reaching out to EA chat support (they just redirected me to the ToS team of EA)

- Created a ticket to the ToS team of EA. Haven't received a response at all

- I also created a new XBOX account and a new EA account to check if it was a one off situation, but it was the same scenario - worked well for 1 day and the next day it was banned. Both my EA accounts are banned for no reason provided.

- Not able to unlink my EA account and linked XBOX account
- Checking with Microsoft support to ensure the the subscription is synced correctly - they have assured me it has

I have downloaded other games from other publishers (Fortnite, Activision) and everything works fine. Im not sure what the issue is here.

As I checked EA forums and other forums, people suggest that EA might have banned my XBOX hardware ID or console ID due to the previous owner. I would like to know if this is possible and does it happen usually?

Any possible resolutions for my case? Thanks in advance

I'm sorry to hear you're dealing with this issue. While I can't say for certain how EA enforces bans in accordance with their Terms of Service, in many cases, restrictions like this may be tied to an IP address rather than the hardware itself. Have you tried connecting your Xbox to a different network to see if that makes a difference?

Since you've already contacted EA, they remain the best source for clarification regarding any account suspensions. Xbox Support does not have access to EA's internal tools or enforcement records, and given that you're able to access other games without issue, this does suggest the problem may be isolated to EA's services. I highly recommend continuing to follow up with EA for more information and to better understand any enforcement actions under their Terms of Service.

Well, it's entirely possible and would make sense given the issue you are having. All you can do is appeal the ban from the link on the following page (am assuming that is the link you used but posting just in case):

Apparently, you can appeal a ban 3 times but I'd still wait a bit before appealing again.

Both my console and pc were HWID Banned. Hardware Banned. I cant use anything xbox live related on either of them.

some games not all ban the hardware id's (HWID banned) of the computer for extreme cases of botting/cheating and exploits, this is why even with a new account you are banned within 24 hours, changing the gpu and completely reinstalling the OS maybe your only chance, even then you may have to change the board etc.

there are ways around it but cannot talk about it here.

I would contact the seller if you can.

Battlenet and epic will not unban.

this kind of achievement should be banned. its based on luck. terrible EA, there making people spend additional money, and you can say they arent, but if youve got everyother achievement bar this, youll spend the money.
