Can disc installs run without the disc if you have a DLC code?

What I'm getting at is that additional space isn't taken up by the same game twice. For example, my brother bought KI:CE, but later I bought KI:UE - my install was faster because most of the game was on the HDD already; it just added my license to use the
game as well as the additional in-game content e.g., alternate outfits & accesories for all of the characters). As I said, I imagine it works the same way with the OP's idea of using the disc. Merlin's response (supposedly) confirms that this does,, in fact,
work.

 

When you purchase a digital game, it'll then ask you to install it. In this case, you'd just put the disc in instead & install it that way. Once that's done the OP chooses the digital install option, which will take only seconds to install his licensing
info since all the other files are already there. Essentially he'll have the game + his license + his friend's license (from the disc) all on his console.

 

I expect he'll try and tell us, I'd like to know, I have nothing to try it with, I have BF digi, wish I had a disc to try this.

 

It's not a "DLC code", just a digital copy of the game.

Yes, one can use the disc to install a game, then activate a digital copy. The digital copy will not need to re-download, it'll automatically use the disc install.

 

So my X1 came with a digital download code/token for Titanfall & Forza 5 (in Australia), so all I need to do is swipe it in front of Kinect and bobs your uncle, full unlock/download.

I just dont have the download limit to install them both, not with Wolfenstein dropping tomorrow as well, really hoping this disc thing works.... I will give it a try and let you all know.

 

It works, installed Titanfall by disc, removed disc, scanned my code (thanks Kinect) and no more disc required.

 

It works fine either way. Before I went all digital, I installed 3 games to the HDD and then bought them digitally. The games run with no disc. You can do this with friends' physical copies to get around the download times if you are going to buy them digitally
on your own.

 

I can confirm this also I had the physical version of forza and won a code for forza in a contest so I have since traded in my physical copy

 

It works fine I originally brought Call of Duty Ghosts on disc but traded it in when I found the digital combo back on sale, the game was available to play as soon as I put the code in since it had already been installed when I had the disc version.
