Can’ connect to a friends game (no matter what game)

My friend and i have gamed for years together on Xbox. Usually we’ve never had issues connecting, but recently we have been completely unable to connect to each others games. It started about 4 months ago (or at least we started noticing it 4 months ago),
when my friend and i decided to try out Generation Zero. No matter what we tried, whether it was hard resets, uninstalling and reinstalling the game, quadruple-checking our NAT types, nothing would let us connect together UNLESS we had another friend host
the lobby, which was troublesome considering our friend had a limited schedule and it was rough at the time getting everyone on at the same time.

The same issue happened again and again on several games, with the same symptoms every time. Diablo 3 wouldn’t work, theHunter wouldn’t work, etc. Some games do work, but its starting to become a hassle having to decide what to play solely based on what
we are functionally ABLE to play. A few games do still work, like SMITE and the new CoD, and we are still able to connect to xbox live parties, though most of our conversation is just frustration over not being able to connect to each other.

Please help. We’re willing to try most anything at this point. Im not 100% certain this hasnt been happening before Gen0, but at that point we were mostly only playing a select few games. Thank you for any assistance!

did any significant changes occur during or about the time like an ISP change or move or anything, maybe even a new router?

Have you checked that your online and safety settings allow for multiplayer?

You can check on the website to see if it has been set correctly.

Hello and im sorry for the trouble you're experiencing. I've also had a similar issue and it was only a glitch with my Xbox Live Gold Subscription. Try to make sure your Subscription is active and if so try to restart your internet connection and see if
that fixes it. If not I apologize and ask if you would go to Xbox. Technical Support for further assistance. Have a nice day.

Hi! I'm sorry you're experiencing this issue.

It may be a problem with how your internet is connecting to one-another as a host such as it not modulating/de-modulating correctly with the other modem. I reccomend making some research on the topic and cross examining your issues. A new router or modem
may be needed, or it could be an easy fix. Examine it and then if needed, contact Microsoft's networking department here.
