Can achievements unlock when you are offline?

I was playing Saints Row Re-Elected and I noticed that there is a storyline achievement that didn't unlock. The achievement that didn't unlock is called "Ghost in the machine." I read that the achievement can be glitched which happened to me. I read that
you would need to delete the gamesave from the console redownload your gamertag to your console and if you want to keep your game you would have to disconnect from Xbox Live and delete the save from the console only and play offline up to that point to get
the achievement to unlock. Then you can reconnect to the internet. I also heard somewhere that you need to be connected to Xbox Live to get achievements.

you can turn the unlocks on and off as they are a feature for when you have people over so if you use the modifier it only unlocks for freeplay and can be switched off when you want to go for the achievements.

Are there any restrictions in place?

I know with Minecraft, you can't unlock some achievements because you have Host Privileges enabled. These are the type of restrictions that folk get confused with when they try and unlock the achievements.

My understanding was that while you can earn achievements offline with the One, they won't actually unlock until you connect to Live.

Vaynel's interpretation of how achievements work on XB1 is spot on. This was done to prevent achievement modding. But do not fret: as mentioned, if you meet the requirements for the achievement, it'll unlock when you connect to Live again.

 

So how will I know if I unlocked the achievement? Will I still get a notification?

I can confirm the achievements don't always unlock once you connect back to Xbox Live. All of my Witcher 3 achievements have been completely broken. I have completed the entire game and been connected to live for over a week, no achievements will unlock
properly. I am level 70 and still have not earned the achievement for earning level 35...

I have posted and asked xbox support, seems no one can help. Never had any problems like this years ago on xbox 360. I spent over $60 on a game and cannot earn any achievements.

 

I know there's always buggy achievements and I guess that happens when online or off but you should be ok when playing offline.

I know a friend of mine when he moved house played a fair bit until his broadband was set up. When he finally connected to Xbox Live his score updated, not sure if he got a notification pop up on screen though.

Even achievement progress tracked when offline. I remember he said on Forza 5 when checking certain achievements ( earn so many gold medals etc ) had still registered offline.

 

I played and completed halo mcc offline, none popped at the time but when I connected back to live one by one all 60 achievements popped

 

Achievements are more to prone to glitch if you are offline.

I had 2 glitch on Watchdogs, as my internet dropped and I didn't realise at the time. 1 was for completing part 2 of the story, which is kind of annoying as I have all the others related to completing the game.

I tend to stop playing if my internet drops now, not because I solely play for achievements but if I earn them then I want them

This actually happened to me last night where I played Episode 1 of Game of Thrones and a few hours of Arkham Knight, but our internet connection was down most of the afternoon. Then once it came back on, it was like rapid fire unlocking 10+ achievements.

 

To add to this madness, sometimes achievements will show up as unlocked on Xbox Smartglass, but they won't pop on the console (even if online). I've had this happen a few times, where I've done what the achievement requires, but it won't actually unlocked
for a couple days.
