Can a faulty controller cause games to crash to dashboard?

In the last week or so I've been experiencing issues with my controller. When I hold the guide button to turn off the Xbox One the right trigger buzzes. When I accept game invites the left trigger buzzes. When I leave my Xbox unattended long enough so that
the controller turns off the screen often freezes and I have to do a hard reset. Sometimes when I replace the controller batteries (eneloop rechargeable) the screen freezes and I have to do a hard reset.

The worst is games crashing to the dashboard repeatedly while playing. Specifically, COD: Ghosts and FIFA 14. In one hour tonight FIFA crashed 3 times. While playing my player starts skipping around and I can't control them. Then the screen freezes and crashes
to the dashboard. Frustrating.

I contacted my ISP to see if they saw any errors or problems with my connection and they reported none.

So I'm wondering if it's the controller. Maybe the chat adapter. Or both. I have been experiencing party chat and game chat issues as well, specifically party chat cutting out at some point and I can't hear party members and they can or can't hear me.

360s red screen w/new HDD?

A faulty HDD can be indicated by Red Screen, as dashboard system files can become defragmented or cause corrupted file heirachy, and crash while rendering etc.

 

Advertisements cause game to crash

The problem has gone away now. The advertisement video began running and the game challenge(s) would load. Just one of those little mysteries of life, I guess.

 

Resolved. It wasn't the controller.
