    Can a Console be banned for being opened and cleaned?


    My sister opened her console and cleaned it and got banned for it. Is this against the terms of use?

    Console Banned

    You never get an email that the console is banned - there is no way to open a case and have it lifted like the a gamer tag.

    If you have ever opened the xbox and changed/removed or touched anything your can be subject to a console banned. This includes changing the fans in the back, if there is too many volts being drawn it is seen as a mod to the internal components and is subject
    to being banned.

    Please Help

    The enforcement team are the only ones with the details on suspension/bannings. They are the ones who respond in the suspensions forum. However, they won't discuss console bans.

    Also, system tampering is not the only reason a console can be banned. A console can be banned even if it's never been opened.

    Yes it is a violation of the terms of service to open your console. It's essentially considered system tampering even if she didn't do anything else to the console.

    I find it hard to believe she was banned since they'd have no way to know she opened it. Or did she send it in for a repair?

    We had 2 Xboxes in 1 room and one of them had a kinect.

    The Kinect has nothing to do with it. My oldest nephew opened his just to vacum it out and was banned before the Kinect came out. The console has a ring of sensors in essence that will notify MS when it was opened. Never open it...for any reason. And
    yes this includes self repair and game repair shops. Only MS authorized shops are allowed.

    Before I got my xbox one I had a 360. I opened and cleaned it 3 times and replaced the disk drive, but I didn't get banned.

    Also so this means I need to not open it, let it full up with dust, and let it break? Microsoft expects us to do that then buy a new one thats probably been used?

    the xbox 360 was from 2006 so the warranty isn't valid any way so it doesn't really mater
